“Comfortable and well-located.”

We had a twin-bedded room on an upper floor, overlooking the harbour and town, which was very pleasant. We would have preferred a king-size bed, but that was only available without the view. The staff were helpful overall, but let down by the restaurant. We had an 'early-bird' dinner, and found our waitress (and others) somewhat brusque and unfriendly in attitude. Breakfast was better, but still not as good as usual for a Marriott.

“Great location, ok service, decor seems outdated”

Upon arrival the front desk person was extremely rude, threatening to not give me a room because I had not indicated in advance that I was allergic to feather pillows. Fortunately, I did not see this person again and all of the other staff were pleasant and helpful. The concierge was great, everything she recommended was extremely fun and made the trip for us. Another great plus is the location of the hotel- we did not have a car and didn't need to take a cab anywhere, everything is accessible by walking. Decor did seem a little kitchy and outdated but the rooms where clean comfortable.

“Nice Trip”

When I went to check in it was 3:30 on my arrival day. I was told my room was not ready, they took my cell number and told me they would call when the room was ready. At 5:30 I came back and it still was not ready. I did not react or ask anything or give the check in person a hard time, but I am sure he knew the second time I was tired and not very happy. He went out back and surfaced about 15 minutes later. He told me they were giving me a different room on the concierge floor, at no extra cost. This would allow me to use the amenities associated with that floor. The problem was I checked in on a Saturday and the services were not available until Sunday evening. I did use them on the Sunday evening though. Other than that mix up, the rest of the hotel and it's services were top notch.

“Great, affordable Newport Hotel”

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. It has parking, is conveniently located, has a nice pool and exercise room and very friendly staff. We had a room in the middle section which we didn't like...no window and it just felt hot and stuffy, but other than that we really enjoy this Marriott and will stay there again.

“Good for what it's worth”

The hotel itself is very nice. However, the staff can be very rude and discourteous. If you ask any question, even a simple one as to how to get somewhere, you will be greeted with either a disdainful answer or saying they don't know and then offer no further assistance.

“Fine in summer - not in winter or at the holidays!”

The hotel, which is enormous, was at 9% capacity, so asking to put in a quiet room away from children (at Christmas time) didn't seem to be a huge request. Therefore, finding that we were actually placed in an area where we were surrounded by noisy, large families, seemed almost sadistic on the part of the staff. I'm sorry, but not everyone has given over their lives to round the clock chaos and the unruliness of passive parenting! Some of us actually still believe in being able to sleep. The dining staff also made it clear they weren't pleased with having to work over the holiday. They stated as much point blank. Inexcusable.

“Loud!”

Rooms overlook the lobby and they need to be sound proof. it was non stop kids yelling all night long.
