Stayed here on a trip with a friend while we did Photography in the area. The hotel is close to the Galloway Forest Park and there were a number of alternate food options in the area. Hotel was a good honest 3* standard. Service was friendly, helpful and food was of a good standard. Breakfasts in particular were excellent and much appreciated. We didn't feel the need to eat elsewhere for our 3 nights. The twin room itself was clean, albeit a bit cramped. We were located over the bar. We were advised of this after booking, and it was only really an issue for a short period on the Friday and Saturday nights, with loud music very clearly heard in the room. We had accepted this limitation, and it was all off by 11pm on the Friday, and 11.45ish on the Saturday, so not that great an issue. We sat in the Dining Room and drank beer, and the barman kindly disconnected the loudspeaker, such that we could enjoy a conversation, while the busy bar next door enjoyed loud music. So I can't really fault the hotel for these things and it was good to see a vibrant popular, well used pub/hotel. There was a small car park at the back, and wifi throughout. Overall it was well-located, excellent value for money and service and food were of a good standard. There was a slight hiccup in that our room had not been serviced on the Saturday morning. It didn't bother us for the 1 day it happened, so we've given the benefit of the doubt in that it was a simple omission.
