“Friendly hotel near Nice”

I spent two nights at Le Chantilly in Cagnes Sur Mer in October 2010 although I had originally planned one night. Due to an upcoming French train strike I had my car longer than planned and found le Chantilly more convenient for a traveler with car than my originally planned second night's hotel in central Nice after the strike would have begun. The owners of Le Chantilly are very helpful and kind. They speak some English although passable French was certainly useful. This hotel felt more French and less touristic than many I used during a two week trip. There are interesting museums etc in Cagnes sur Mer and it's easy to get in and out of Nice by train. The hotel is clean although a little old fashioned. The free parking is secure. You are not right on the sea, but within a ten minute walk. You are very close to the race track which would make for some interesting fellow guests when races were being held. Certainly recommended as long as what is expected is a clean, friendly French feeling hotel rather than a deluxe experience.

We spent 3 days at Le Chantilly. It is a family owned hotel and the owners are very nice. When we arrived our booking didn't exist and the owner did her best to find a room for us but it was high season and every hotel in the region was fully booked. They found a solution for our first night in a family home nearby and arranged for us to stay at the hotel the next 2 days. The room was very comfortable, everything was very clean, breakfast was good. We used the hotel parking (not included in the price). The location is very good if you have a car, if not, the train station is nearby and the train takes you everywhere for a low fare. The beach is 4 or 5 blocks away and there are nice restaurants at walking distance.
