spur of the moment

Pros: Everything!
Cons: Have the front desk staff state at check in that there is generally a waiting line to the breakfast buffet so be sure to get on the waiting list.
Location: Pleased that it was close by to a grocery store, liquor store and gas station.
WOW! We were extremely pleased with the size of the room, number of beds, fire place, 2 full bathrooms. Very nice! Kids loved the pool and waterslide and all of the fun activities in the kids center. The free breakfast buffet was wonderful, however, when checking in I would highly recommend that the front desk state that there is normally a waiting line to the breakfast. We walked straight through assuming that the line was for the other restaurant. We got our plates full and noticed that there was no place to sit. A waitress was very accomdating and cleared a table off for us so that the kids could eat.

Excellent value, excellent room.

Since we booked as a last minute deal, I had very little expectations. Both the room and resort far surpassed those expectations. The room was an excellent value for all that we got. It was a beautiful room, well maintained, clean, and with upscale furnishings. It was quiet, cozy, and exactly the relaxing atmosphere I was looking for. Not only that, but it came with an incredible breakfast each morning we were there. One of the best buffets I have eaten. I couldn't believe it came free with the room! I had never been to Grand View, but will definitely go back... soon!

Beware of small bathroom sink!

Posted Nov 12, 2012
Pros: Food
Cons: Bathroom
We stayed in Room #320 in the main lodge. The room gave us the historic feel, but the bathroom, although updated, could have been much better. The shower had pink and brown mildew stains beneath the door and in the corners. The sink was way too small for a hotel bathroom. Either the faucet needed to be smaller (it was very hard to brush your teeth or wash your face because the faucet was in the way - minscule basin) OR the sink needed to be bigger. The pedastal sink was so small there wasn't anyplace to put any toiletries except on the toilet or the floor. Gross! It left me feeling like I needed to disinfect my toiletries once I got home. The lodge itself was charming with the log cabin feel. The food was wonderful! We had a wine tasting with cheese, crackers and fruit. We also ate in the Northwoods Pub where the appetizers and dessert were delicious! The breakfast buffet was a feast! The spa was very relaxing.... We would come back but definitely NOT to stay in room #320!

Over rated hotel

Posted Jun 2, 2011
This lodge is on Historic Hotel of America Register, which is the principle reason we booked this hotel. The hotel is on the shore of Gull Lake, one of the many lakes in Minnesota. The view is very nice. The hotel and many small lodges around it is poorly maintained, very little landscape. The room service is simple, replenish the towels only. It does not match the conventional hotel services. There is a coffee machine, but no cups, no cream and no sugar. Carpet is not very clean either. We did not even bother to eat at hotel's restaurant. We went out every day. It is not attractive. So the hotel is over charged and over rated. We love Minnesota. But next time, we will find a better place to stay.
