In need of improvements

The room was overlooking the car park so was noisy. The hotel hosts weddings so loud music til 12pm. Bed needs a new matress. The room ceiling had evidence of a water leak. One wall had paint peeling off. Verdict avoid hotel

Pros: The in-house carvery was good value for money.
Cons: Several things could be improved, as shown above.
Set well back from the road in its own grounds and away from the city centre, I expected a quiet stay. However half of the floorboards squeaked - and not just in my room. I could hear people in other rooms, and I didn't need to set an alarm as I was woken up by people going past my room around 6:30am each day. It didn't help that the door to the stairs slammed loudly as well. I asked for an iron, which was duly delivered. After I tightened up the cover on the plug so that it was safe to use (!) I put some water in it, but when I started to use it, the water ran out through the hotplate, all over my shirt, the ironing board and the floor! Fortunately my razor was already charged, as the socket was so high above the mirror over the sink that the tension on the lead meant the plug would not make a proper contact, so it would not charge. On the second day I had an evening meal in the restaurant, but this was spoiled by a workman continually banging nails as part of refurbishing one of the rooms. Was it really necessary for this work to be carried out at 7pm, instead of during the day when most people would be out? Overall, very disappointing.

Location for a family wedding and reception was good. Small reception area when a larger party arrived. It appears part of the hotel has undergone refurbishment. Our room [26] had not. It was a good sized room. The only window was a Velux type window, so no view. Stains on the carpet. paintwork on the door was very tatty. Walls were in need a coat of paint. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was very shabby with insufficient pressure to use the mixer shower - if we were able to. at 4.30 we contacted reception to inform them there was no heating and no hot water. They sent a man up who explained "the boiler is on its last legs but they wont buy a new one, this is always happening" he said there was no hot water in the kitchen either. He re-set the boiler and said it would take about 40 minutes for the water to get hot. Although the radiators got hot - the water never did. The following morning we moved room and this was ok. The food and the wedding fayre was excellent. There is an obvious shortage of staff. On our final morning, the bride and groom had arranged for the wedding party to have breakfast together before leaving. The restaurant staff knew nothing about this and had to hurriedly set up the table - causing embarrassment all round. For the amount paid, this was not good value and we wont stay there again, and I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Nice hotel with friendly staff. the food was very good and I always enjoy a carvery. My room however, was a little cramped and windowless with the exception of a ceiling sky light that made the whole experience claustrophobic. The water pressure was also poor making a shower just bearable. Dont let these comments put you off though! I assume most of the rooms are very nice and the hotel is perfectly placed for Norfolk Broads and the town centre. Overall, an enjoyable stay but the room slightly disappointing

Comfortable pleasant hotel

Pros: Our room was large, slightly retro in decor and clean and comfortable. Food was plentiful, varied and delicious.
Cons: There is no lift that we saw, so this could be difficult for those with mobility issues.
Location: Anglican Cathedral - take the tour! Ranworth Broad - small & beautiful - amazing views from top of the church. Go seal watching from Marston Quay.
Overall we were very happy with our accommodation and service. There was one particular waitress ( I think her name was Jo) who was especially helpful and took the time to give us personal recommendations. She practically planned our whole visit and we went to several of her suggested places, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We ate in the carvery twice, which was delicious and really inexpansive. We had no hot water for 3 out of the 4 mornings we were there. The staff did their best to sort it out, but eventually gave us a free meal and a free night's accommodation as recompense. Their attitude throughout was polite, courteous and helpful.

Check-in very efficient. Room large with sufficient clothes storage space but no where to hang wet overcoats. nice bathroom with both bath and shower. Excellent breakfast. Efficient check out. Room very cold during night due to boiler problem, things go wrong without warning! Will book again.
