Not very welcoming

Posted Oct 19, 2014
Pros: Location and relative price
Cons: Lack of criticism from the owner about everything you do. Eg. using the ketchup from the bottle provided rather than the sachets (which I didn't see)
The location and price were what attracted us to The St. Edmundsbury. Without going into details; the good location and reasonable cost was ruined by a somewhat unwelcome feeling from one of the owners. When staying in a guest house you are sharing someones house and the personality of the proprietors can make a big difference on the overall experience - in this case it was not a positive difference. For example - Breakfast on the first day was pretty good. The second day it was all overcooked (kept warm under a grill). No offer was made to re-cook it - the options are take-it or leave-it. This is one example of the unwelcoming behavior/poor service we experienced. We booked for two days and seriously considered packing up and leaving before the end of the first day.

First Impressions Not Good

Posted Jul 17, 2014
Cons: The Wi-Fi signal needs to be stronger.
Location: The B&B is located about 15 minute drive from the city centre. Down a narrow road, it is a long way to public transport.
We observed Expedia instructions to chech in at 4pm. We rang the bell many times, but didn't get any response, so we assumed no-one was home. Almost 1 hour later, the wife of the owner arrived home. After being told that we had been waiting for nearly 1 hour, she immediately went into the back garden, looking for husband, who was doing gardening at the time. He is deaf, but doesn't wear hearing aids & a notice wasn't put on the front door to indicate that he is in the garden. He is also forgetful; he asked what we wanted for breakfast & we ordered an English Breakfast without mushrooms & baked beans, but we were given the full breakfast, including the mushrooms & beans. The Wi-Fi signal is very weak; we had to go to the guest lounge to use it. We couldn't pick up any signal in our room.

Bathroom a bit too small. Good service and good wholesome breakfast. Clean room and service fine.
