“Virginia Beach waterfront”
This was a great hotel for the money, especially if you want to be right on the beach, and centrally located on the strip. This hotel is very basic, so if full service and luxury surroundings are what you want, this is not your kind of place. The room was clean (except for the coffeemaker, which was gross), the patio looked out over the boardwalk and beach, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was adequate (coffee, cereal, muffins, waffles), but there are a lot of great breakfast joints within a block or two from here if you want some protein with your meal. This hotel is almost exactly at the mid-point of the strip, so almost every restaurant, store, or activity is within easy walking distance.
Dining
Breakfast at Honey Beez on Atlantic is a must. You can order off the menu or get the buffet.
Ammos Greek restaurant is great for lunch or dinner, and the beachfront patio is awesome. The food is very fresh and well prepared.
In general, the restaurants here are average at best, so these are just two that impressed, and are not expensive at all.
Family-friendly activities
The main thing here is to hang out on the beach. The beach here is clean, and usually not too crowded. There are volleyball nets set up in a couple of areas, and a couple of nice playground areas as well. Walking along the boardwalk, or renting bikes, is great in the morning or afternoon, as the beach is the center of activity at those times. In the evening, foot traffic along Atlantic Ave. builds up, and this is the time to catch dinner on an outdoor patio, either beachside or streetside. There are usually quite a few street performers during the summer, and many of them are very entertaining. There are also quite a few ice cream shops along Atlantic to grab a late evening cone. The strip starts to get a little rowdy by around 10pm, as the nightclubs open up, so hanging out on Atlantic with kids is not advisable at this time. The Boardwalk is well lit for a late night stroll or a walk along the beach. There are some local arcade/amusement places close by as well, but I did not check any of these out.
