“Fantastic Location”

We stayed here because we went to a show at the Norva. The location is the best because it's located in the midst of the all the clubs/bars, restaurants, mall and of course, the Norva (2 blocks away). It's a really cool historic building. The room views aren't so great and the furniture is a little worn, but they keep the room clean which is the most important. The free breakfast isn't great, but adequate.

We were VERY impressed with the Tazewell - if the need arises to stay in Norfolk area again, we will definitely stay at the Tazewell! Very elegant building which had a classic charm about it, inside and out!

Our stay was very enjoyable - the location was very convenient, we were able to walk to dinner, movies, shopping, etc. The desk clerks were extremely nice and helpful, which helped to make our stay a pleasant experience.

“Quiet Little Downtown Secret”

Looking at the row of closely standing buildings on Granby Street, it is difficult to pick out the one that houses this precious hotel. The room was amazingly clean and spacious, the lobby is breath taking and almost reminds me of a 1920s Hollywood Starlet movie, and the staff were helpful and polite. The hotel bar, The Empire Bar, was wonderful!

“great location, good value”

if you are looking for a place downtown Norfolk, check this one out. It is a decent place (a bit old, though), right in the middle of whatever there is to see in Norfolk. Service is very responsive to all request. The only down side is the outside noise - as a historic hotel, it does have windows that do not block the music at the nearby nightclub.

“Great hotel!”

Big, clean rooms. Pleasant staff. Great location. Very affordable. Highly recommend this hotel! The restaurant in the hotel - Snappers - is also amazing and had reasonably priced ($10) to pricier items ($20). Overall, great experience and would definitely stay there again.

“Great Hotel Downtown”

Great hotel in the heart of the downtown Norfolk resurgance! Nice staff, shabby-chic, restored historic building. Not a "luxurious" stay, but affordable, full of character, decent breakfast, on top of the up & coming Granby Street restaraunt cooridor. Impressed with Norolk and surprised w/ the Tazewell!! Will come back to both.

Located on Granby Street, it's convenient to all downtown venues and activities. Simple but elegant rooms. Helpful staff and pet friendly. Reminded me of a New York City hotel where you walk out of the lobby right into the "action" on the street.

“A nice, convenient place to stay”

This is an old-fashioned/Old World/National Preservation hotel, and completely charming. A comfortable bed, a nicely re-done bathroom, good cable ... who can ask for more! Housekeeping could have been better. The room was fine, but I had to go to the front desk to get a coffee pack. But that was a minor inconvenience, all considered. Located downtown right on Granby St. at Tazewell, and a convenient walk to the convention center, a shopping mall, shops, restaurants, theatres, and a revival movie house. A very nice grocery is just down the street.(Yeah, there's a homeless shelter across from the grocery, but we were never approached or hassled.) The continental breakfast is just that: do-it-yourself waffles, cereal, bagels, muffins, coffee, juice, and yogurt. If you want more, there's a nice place just down the street. Parking is a few blocks away, but still handy. A parking pass from the hotel is $15/day, with in-and-out privileges, but $12/day if you stay put. We never had a problem finding a space. Downtown is torn-up (late Sept. '09) to put in a light-rail line, and there are some empty store-fronts, but the hotel itself off-sets that. A nice place to stay. We'll certainly come back.
