“No HoJo for me”

I was given keys for the assigned non-smoking room and as soon as I entered the room it was obvious former guests has been smoking. A staff member attempted to explain the smoky air away saying that it was likely coming through a ventilation system and that the air would be ok once the air conditioner was started. I said that was not satisfactory and asked for another room. I was shown another "non-smokiing" room after a few minutes. The air conditioner was running in there and at first I did not notice any odor. I accepted the room. Later I noticed there was an odor of smoke in this room too but it was tolerable. The hotel is obviously run down. The radiator and toilet roll holder were starting to fall off the wall. The rubber sink plug was crumbvling around the edges. As far as service, only one tiny bar of soap was in the bathroom and no complimentary shampoo or lotion. We stayed two nights, and on the second day, the shampoo and lotion appeared but no extra soap. The garbage had not been emptied. Disposable drinking cups were made of paper and got soggy fairly quickly. The complimentary breakfast was mediocre and we had to ask for coffee as the urn was empty. I booked HJ because of the name. I will not book there again.
