Lovely Stay for Our Last Night in Ireland

Posted Jun 12, 2015
Pros: The Portmarnock is very conveniently located outside Dublin for anyone with an early morning flight (10.7 km took about 15 minutes). Beautiful hotel.
Cons: The staff at the Jameson Bar was a little confused as to who our server was. We had three different servers ask for our order.
Location: Walking the beach was the highlight of our afternoon. The long sandy stretch is magnificent and relaxing. The Irish Sea is beautiful.
This was our last night of an anniversary vacation and our hotel "splurge" for the trip. We were very pleased with every aspect of our stay. Our first floor room had an ocean view and was very large and quiet, even for being near a kitchen door. The bed was extremely comfortable. We are in our 50's and often wake a little stiff, so this was appreciated. Our itinerary got us to the hotel nearly 3.5 hours before the "official" check-in time of 3 pm, but our room was ready and we were allowed to check in, even though we only asked if we could store our luggage. We were very appreciative of this courtesy. Parking is ample and convenient. Loading and unloading was a breeze, although I should note that there is a slight incline to the sidewalk that, while not an impediment, could slow down elderly travelers with large luggage. There is ample hotel staff to assist if needed. We very much enjoyed a long walk on the beach and doing some beach combing. We are not golfers, but enjoyed the landscaping, garden, and viewing the course. Our dinner in the Jameson Bar was very good. I recommend sitting at a fireside table if you can. Very romantic and cosy. I thought the price was very fair for such excellent accommodation so near Dublin. I would stay there again.

weekend break

Posted Apr 8, 2015
Pros: good sized bright room & modern furnishings
Location: a short journey to Malahide (tourist village) and Sutton (for Dart)
service was both efficient and friendly. we ate in the Jameson Bar which was very busy both nights but the staff still gave quick quality service and were attentive to detail - the food was good, and the Guinness hit the spot.

Quiet hotel near beach

Posted Apr 7, 2015
Pros: Location is excellent
Cons: Choice of egg at breakfast could be better, only scrambled egg on offer throughout our stay, unfortunately it appeared most unappetising.
Location: Easy access to train to Dublin, visit Malahide which is nearby with excellent restaurant selection, and visit Malahide Castle - wonderful
We stayed for 3 nights over Easter period, staff very helpful and pleasant. location is excellent, beside beach, lovely coastal walk, also near local train station which is a short ride into Dublin. overall a quiet hotel, comfortable clean room, breakfast good.

Visit daughter in Dublin

Posted Mar 22, 2015
Pros: location on the ocean outside of the city of dublin yet only a 15 min drive to city center
Cons: Nothing
Location: malahide castle, the hikes thru Houth, temple area in dublin, visiting as many pubs as you can, listening to irish music
Arrived early before check in drove to Malahide then back to Howth...beautiful towns. Spent two nights in Dublin seeing the sights. A very easy in and out of dublin route from the hotel. The hotel was quiet, clean , elegant, tasteful and all the staff were friendly and helpful.

Excellent Hotel

Excellent hotel. Were given free upgrade without asking, into links suite, best room in hotel. Breakfast far too dear, so had it in local restaurant for less than half the price.
