We love staying here! The staff are extremely kind and helpful and the atmosphere is unbeatable. The tea room was the highlight of our trip! We also had a wonderful time exploring the area. The boardwalk and the water are so close by!

Perfect location in downtown Newburyport. Walking distance to shops and waterfront. Hotel is historic but also decorated in the boutique hotel style. Glamorous and welcoming all at the same time. Added bonus…. Delicious complimentary cooked to order breakfast in the cutest dining area!!!

We enjoyed our stay here. Breakfast was complimentary and outstanding. Very well decorated with lots of boutique touches. Room was very clean and spacious and super cute. My only minor complaint was that the AC unit was loud and not very efficient at cooling.

Mini getaway for me!
Beautiful spot, close to downtown and more! Had beautiful decor and a nice tea time which I loved. My two complaints the main light stopped working in my room told housekeeping and tried to call downstairs. The bed needs to be replaced the room is beautiful but the bed was beyond uncomfortable time to upgrade the bed for a boutique had the worse sleep ever! Breakfast as yummy as well. The receptionist upon check in was the best so friendly and accommodating!!

Great Boutique Hotel
My stay was great. If you like antique or want to try something different the Garrison is the place to go. They offer a hot breakfast and nightly tea.

What a unique stay at a historical hotel featuring one of our nation's most fervent abolitionists! This is the ultimate Newburyport hotel: close to downtown, within walking distance to the river, in the heart of the city, with large rooms, modern, but antique-looking amenities, and a nightly tea-time that just seems to fit.

The Garrison hotel is in a beautiful historic building which has been updated to be both stately and whimsical at the same time. Evening tea service was an added treat and the full breakfast menu was terrific. Also, the staff is friendly and very helpful.

Kinda like Grandma's
This is a nice and happy hotel. The building is older (historical) and therefore so are some of the fixtures. Bed comfort is so personal that it's difficult to rate - for us the bed was hard, but some people like that while others don't. We were in a corner king and the room while plenty big had some some features - like the closet and the bathroom. The bathroom could definitely use a new toilet. Made to order breakfast is included and very good. The staff is WONDERFUL - So very helpful and kind. So for us it's was kinda like staying at Grandma's house - your room and bed might be a little older and not as comfortable as home, but you don't care because of the care you receive. The hotel is reported (on some sites) to be haunted - no evidence of that on the second floor! We had a lovely stay.

The rooms were nice and the sitting areas quaint but it was definitely not worth the money. Not even a complimentary bottle of water in the room. Breakfast included but 1 person took the orders, made the food and delivered it. It was a full house too. I guess I should be content with the complimentary pencil.

Fantastic location, grand building, the penthouse duplex was very pleasing to the eye with excellent temperature control and a very comfortable bed. But for the price I paid per night, I should have had a tea and coffee machine, a smart TV, complimentary water and high quality bath amenities. Every little thing had a surcharge, the television channels were rudimentary and boring, and despite a great complimentary breakfast, the surliness of the server and the time it took to be served left a lot to be desired. Paying each night for a log to be provided for the fireplace was a little pokey too. Honestly, when it is so premium priced, I expect a grand bundle is what it's all about!

The Garrison Inn fits perfectly in Newburyport
I love the history of this Inn. It's very easy to learn the history of who Garrison was from grabbing an info pamphlet in the lobby to carry with me as I wonder through town. The breakfast in the morning was better than any traveling breakfast I've had in the last decade. I think this place is great and I will recommend it to anyone traveling through Newburyport. Easy walk into town.

The bed was comfortable. That was the best part of our stay here. Good breakfast offered in the morning, as well. But, hairs stuck to the shower wall and floors in the bathroom means housekeeping does not care for the details. I even caught one of the maids USING my bathroom while she was supposed to be cleaning it. Ugh. Stray garbage lie undetected in the hallway for days, the carpets felt/looked dirty. Staff was also not too friendly. You'd return after a day out and the desk staff wouldn't even say Hi. Nor did they ask how our stay was upon check-out. So strange. We would not stay here again. If you like "character" of history I guess it's OK. Good location to walk to things, but Newburyport is all walkable, really.
