“Great for Pets”

I loved the deck out back. View was beautiful. huge bay windows with view in the distance of ocean. Loved being able to have my pet there. Nice pet relief area. A bit of a walk to the office to get ice and drinks in the room I was at, some are closer. bring an adapter if you have 3prong plugs. we had to borrow the adapter from refrigerator plug so we could use our laptop. outlets are 2 prong. its an old hotel but views and convenience to provincetown make it worth giving up some luxury. loved being able to park right outside room.

“recommend with reservations”

im in the travel business and spend a lot of time in hotels and motels. this property is on par with most of the hotel properties on the cape. there is some room for improvement tho. the door to room had a big gap which allowed the creepy crawlies to get in. we killed a few spiders in the first 5 min. otherwise the room was very clean the location great and the price very competitive. the property allows pets and i was concerned that there would be a pet smell or some other allergy type of issue but that was not the case. kudos to the housekeeping staff they do a great job. the mattress was so so, better than most in this hotel category but not like home. since hotels are the the biz of providing places to sleep one might think more resources would go into the beds. the front desk person was oddly impolite. the restaurant has one of the best breakfasts on the cape. we picked a cold week to visit so we did not use the pool or the grounds. overall i would recommend, especially if you are traveling with a pet. the location is a good one. close enough to provincetown but far enough away to enjoy some of the peace and quiet of the cape.

Area recommendations
Provincetown is close by. The bike trails between herring cove and race point are fabulous. Vineyard is down the street. Transfer station swap shops were an interesting use of resources and recycling. Seal watching at race point. Harbor cruise from ptown harbor. Kayaking the salt marshes.

“Would go back in an instant”

After reading the reviews previously posted I was a little apprehensive. But when we arrived I was extremely pleased. Yes the motel is older and could probably use a little touch up here and there. But it was very clean and comfortable. The size of the bedroom was fantastic, bathroom small but adequate (no hairdryer) and an extra room off the bedroom with a counter, mirror, sink, a small refrigerator, microwave and the coffee maker. The view wonderful especially since we were not in the exact front overlooking the water. But we still had a water view. When we were checking out we discovered danishes and coffee at the front desk. Unfortunately we were there midweek just before high season, so the restaurant was only open on weekends. It had good reviews and a great vista. This piece of property is also the sister to the Provincetown Inn. So when you go into Provincetown you can use that facility to swim and park if you don't mind a pleasant 20 minute walk. For the price, location, and size I would encourage people to choose this property as long as they do not expect the finer amenities.

Area recommendations
The North Truro Vineyard has an excellent wine tasting and tour. Provincetown is only 7 miles away. Wonderful restaurants - expecially the Mews.

“Good bargain on Cape Cod”

If you're looking for a luxury resort experience, the Outer Reach is not for you. It's an older facility, and it shows its age. The rooms are comfortable but not fancy. The exteriors of the units might be characterized as "run down" - not in a way that will compromise your stay, just don't expect anyone to be impressed with the appearance of the place. Also, if you're the kind of person who makes lots of demands - wants extra pillows, wants your air-conditioning adjusted, etc, etc, don't stay at the Outer Reach. The staffing is kind of reminiscent of John Cleese's old BritCom "Fawlty Towers." But you can't beat the location. It's a beautiful spot - walking distance to the Atlantic Ocean - and Provincetown and its many activities are just a short drive up the road. In addition, the Outer Reach is pet-friendly and very reasonably priced (by Cape Cod summer season standards). My wife and I have stayed there several times and have never had trouble getting a mid-week reservation. It's probably even more of a bargain in the off-season. We like to stay at the Outer Reach and drive up to P-town to dine and shop. I really like the place and will definitely return. It''s great for a romantic couple's getaway, as long as you're not looking for anything fancy or five-star amenities. What you get is a clean comfortable room in one of the most beautiful spots on the East Coast. If that works for you, then you'll like the Outer Reach.

“It's not what it used to be!”

This property is old and very tired. They admit to such in their evaluation sheet in the room. I had not asked for a deck when I made the reservation and tried to upgrade, but was not allowed to do such. However, we went to sit outside on the lawn in the evening and the mosquitos were so bad, that the deck was no longer important. The room was very clean and the beds were excellent, but overall the room and the property are very tired. The dry rot on the lining of the drapes was really awful. I had stayed there many years ago when the property was new and loved it. It just has not been maintained. I read other reviews that it was noisy. We had no issue with that and the pool was large and clean. The view is wonderful and that is its best feature by far. I probably will not go back, there are too many other possibilities.

Area recommendations
We stayed earlier this spring at Crow's Nest in North Truro and it was amazing. It is all new, efficient and right on the beach. We have also enjoyed in Provincetown Bayshore and Chandler properties as well as Crowne Pointe. Outer Reach is certainly not in a league with any of these properties and they do not claim to be, but I guess the bottom line is you get what you pay for. While some travelers use a rom only as a place to crash, we truly enjoy a nice property and thoroughly enjoy a nice room.
When to go
Any time you can do off season on the Cape, one should do it! While some of the excitement of Provincetown is diminished in off season, the traffic can be dealt with. On a Thursday morning, it took us 2 hours to get from Hyannis to Truro.

“The Perfect Home Away from Home”

I had stayed at the Outer Reach on several occasions, many years ago. I was so hoping that it hadn't changed. In fact, it has--for the better! They now have air conditioning and televisions in the room. (Although I didn't use either, it was nice to know they were there.) The Outer Reach is a serene place to go and recharge your battery. Calm and quiet with beautiful views from the proch of the room. They allow dogs which is a huge plus. I didn't bring mine, but spent time visiting with other people's pets. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was always clean, with fresh towels whenever needed. The pool is pleasant and you are close to several great beaches. The rooms also have a refrigerator, a microwave, and a coffee maker. Nice to be able to grab a snack for some meals rather than going to a resaurant for every meal. I can't wait to go back next summer! (One note: No one I spoke with could get the in-room wifi to work...I say,log off and unplug--you're on vacation!!)

Area recommendations
Herring Cove Beach is handicap accessible. Just pull up to the sand and park. Also has restrooms and a snack bar. I also LOVE Wellfleet Drive-In. It's only 20 minute drive and it's a real, old-fashioned good time. To avoid long lines and long waits, go to restaurants at off-peak hours. I highly recommend the Moby Dick Restaurant on Route 6 for a lobster clambake that can't be beat.
