Property Amenities
The George III Hotel is set on the banks of the magnificent Mawddach Estuary, six miles inland of Barmouth. An historic building this 1650 building was originally two dwellings - a ship chandlers serving the flourishing boat building industry, and a pub. Nearby Barmouth is a popular holiday resort situated on the west coast of Wales, at the mouth of the stunning Mawddach estuary. Surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery, it is on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. It is an ideal area for mountain walks, and also has a large sandy beach and mile-long promenade.
Barmouth also has a harbour used by fishing boats and yachts, and the quayside has a magnificent view across the estuary towards the mountain of Cader Idris. Other attractions in the area include Portmeirion, Coed y Brenin Visitors Centre, Electric Mountain and Corris Railway. The main hotel was built circa 1650 and was once two separate buildings. One half was a pub and the other a ship chandlers’ serving the flourishing boat building industry outside the hotel. The two buildings were matched around 1890 to form what is now the hotel. The Lodge is a Victorian building, built as a waiting room, ticket office and station master’s house for the adjacent station by Cambrian Railways. Great Western took over in the 1920’s followed by British Rail until the line was closed in 1964 by Dr Beeching.
