“A Super Relaxing Break”

My mother and I arrived at 2 pm and we were greeted by a very kind and helpful receptionist. The reservation should have been booked as a twin room but we had been allocated a double, with speed and efficiency she sorted the problem out and we were asked whether we would like help with our baggage to our room. The room was clean, bright and airy. The beds were extremely comfortable and my mother who claims, she never sleeps well on the first night anywhere, slept right through. All the staff throughout our stay were very polite, friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very efficient and the food was good too. There was an unbelievable choice of all types of food for breakfast, all of which was quickly replenished as it was used. I would definitely return, infact I am writing this review with dates in mind for our next stay. Thank you very much everybody at Aldwark Manor.

“Fantastic Staff”

Aldwark Manor is a lovely hotel. However, make sure you request one of the refurbished rooms. Our first room was badly in need of refurbishment. We were moved for our second night and the new room was fantastic. The staff were excellent throughout. The standard in the restaurant is good, excellent food and service. The spa is well appointed but can be busy. My wife's massage was rushed and disappointing. The gym is well equipped with modern equipment.

“Something special going on here”

This hotel has retained lots of character whilst providing guests with all modern facilities. The food was first class, we have stayed in many places of comparable quality but meals were often poor.We shall be back!

“Hotel and room review”

The pool, spa, lounge and restaurant were very comfortable, however, the room was a huge disappointment in that it felt like the last resort room, being very small and basic. The pillows were so uncomfortable that we both had bad necks the following morning and the pain continued all the following week. The meal in the restaurant was small and only satisfactory, however, when the waitress asked if everything was ok, I told her that the fondant potato that came with my pork dish was uneatable and tasted strange. She looked uncomfortable and declined to do anything about it. Hence, we were also charged full price for the meal which was disappointing.

The service and comfort were excellent. The health club was very good. The dining room is modern style with excellent food and service

The suite we stayed in, the attached golf course and the surrounding countryside completed a fabulous weekend away.

“Fawlty Towers”

Beautiful Location, Building and Room but I got the feeling they were very short staffed. They tried their best to please but hardly put a foot right. *Arrived at 4pm and had to wait 45 minutes for the room to be made ready before checking in. *Anniversary day, ordered breakfast in bed to be served between 9:30 & 10:00 - received after 10:30 *Reserved a dinner table for 20:30, was seated at 21:15. Starters arrived with main course at 22:15 with vegetables missing. I could go on. It was our 11th wedding anniversary and we had a great time - including laughing at the ridiculous service with other customers. If you don't mind waiting for service and not to fussed about getting the wrong order, then go, you will love it. Despite it's faults I would go back.

“Beautiful hotel, shame about service”

First impressions were fab, but when allocated a substandard very small room, the mood changed. We were allocated a much nicer room quickly but the damage was done. Dinner in restaurant was excellent. Very good food and value for money, but breakfast was rushed and not enough seats/staff. Disappointing given 4 star rating Great location for York sightseeing.

“smile without service”

Reception kept waiting more than once and given key to wrong room - good job we are honest Restaurant waited over half an hour for starter (we had booked) tables not cleared no drinks offered waited for menu for desert for 15 mins then walked out. Served b'fast scrambled egg from dish that had obviuosly been used to cook fish then not washed - disgusting Bar kept waiting every time we wanted drink as barman kept disappearing Staff party in grounds noisy til gone three
