The Bates Motel!Posted May 3, 2010
The photos on the hotel's website are quite misleading. I would call this a 'motel' rather than a hotel, and the majority of rooms are not represented by the images that are presented. Upon arriving at Reception the greeting from the owner made us feel that we were an inconvenience. The rooms are basic, with no telephone in the room. There was a walkway on the upper floor of the rooms which was very noisy, and picked up every sound as people went by. Most of the floorboards creaked, and the mattress on the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Put this together with what seemed to be very thin walls (possibly studded), and it makes for a very uncomfortable stay. The list of major and minor faults with our room was quite long; Torn Duvet, Torn Pillowcase, Broken chain on the sink plug, Broken tiles on the side of the bath, Shaver light not working, Sticking door lock to our room, Very low pressure in the shower, The heating went off at 9pm and the room quickly got cold. The carpet in the dining room was badly stained. It's very difficult to see how this hotel had gained its' three stars. It would have been more accurate with one. In all honesty I cannot recommend this 'hotel' at all. We were very disappointed. It's a shame that a small family run business can be run like this and still expect people to come to stay there.
