Convenient and Phil was a real gem!Posted Sep 4, 2014
Phil was helpful and gave very clear instructions to get around town. He also helped us call for a cab to the train station. Breakfast was homey and boosted the overall experience.

excellent hotel, close to town centrePosted Aug 9, 2014
Pros: Everything, they really do try to make sure everything is 10/10
Cons: could not find anything to pick fault with
Location: good location close to town centre, plenty of shops and bars. there are trail walks to do and a ghost walk, the york dungeons, railway museum.
we had a lovely 2 day break at the friars rest. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Hotel was absolutely spotless, very comfortable bed, bedding very clean. everything about the place was 10/10, really couldnt pick fault with anything. Lovely cooked breakfast each morning and they always asked if you needed anything else. It was about a 10 min walk to town centre which wasn't bad at all, plenty to do in town centre.Overall a really enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend staying at the friars rest.

Very homely guest house in good position.Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: We liked everything about the Friers Rest
Location: Very good location easy walking distance to the city centre
We arrived around 12.30 pm and Phil came to meet us and show us to our parking place which was a big bonus. We were in room 5 which is on the top floor, it was a lovely big room with everything we needed and 2 windows that opened out and kept the room cool as it was a warm day. The tv on the wall was exceptional and the bed very comfortable and there was more than enough teas and coffees. The walk into the city centre was a 10 min stroll and a lovely walk by the river as we were told it would be. The following morning the wonderful smell of bacon came wafting into our room and we were not disappointed when we were served with the best full English we've had in years. So all in all our 2 night stay was home from home thanks to Phil and his staff and we will definately stay again. Thankyou again Phil.

Lovely B&B with convenient locationPosted Jul 30, 2014
Pros: Staff was very responsive to our needs, including through emails prior to arriving. Beautiful house with lovely garden in the front.
Cons: Bathroom was small but updated and very clean.
Location: Easy walk to the historic center city.
We had a nice room that fit our family well. A standard bed for my wife and me, twin beds for our teenagers. Very clean and attractive. Excellent breakfast. Most helpful and accommodating staff.

Nice hotel close to city centrePosted Jun 13, 2014
We really like this hotel. It's not located at the city centre but you can go for a walk along the river side towards city centre. The hotel service is nice as well and the staff are very kind.

Lovely B&B short walk from town centre.Posted Jun 1, 2014
Pros: Staff were helpful and friendly, breakfast was great and bed very comfortable- what more could you ask for.
Cons: Bigger towels
Location: A short walk from the town centre and easy to find, lovely walk along the river. We visited several local attractions and also did a spot of shopping.
Friendly and helpful staff, very nice breakfast, good value for money and comfortable room. Only slight problem was the size of the towels would be nice to be able to actually wrap them around you after a shower, but to be fair if that was the only thing to complain about was it really worth complaining?

Very pleasant stayPosted May 21, 2014 on Hotels.com
The owners were extremely welcoming and standards were high throughout. The rooms and decor were a little dated but everything was clean and tidy. Lovely B&B.
