4 Nights in York

Posted Apr 23, 2014
We arrived on a Friday afternoon and were very well received by the front desk. porteridge to our room was prompt and very courteous. We were excellently placed to all the major attractions and close to the university by public transport. The food was good and room service fine. In all a pleasant part busness, part leisure, stay

Parking is difficult

Excellent location. Room keys didn't work throughout hotel. Almost fist fight about parking on double yellow lines outside. Room with 2 doubles not huge.

Ideally situated for the best York has to offer

Posted Apr 21, 2014
We stayed at the Hilton Hotel in York just for one night while visiting our son who is at University there. The hotel is situated directly opposite Cliffords Tower and is perched on the edge of the shopping area of the city - all within walking distance. There is a charge for parking at the hotel, however as my husband is a blue badge holder we were able to park free of charge at the car park directly opposite the hotel which was a bonus. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and the beds were fantastic - very comfortable with lovely crisp bedding. We opted for breakfast in the morning which was very good - husband got veggie sausages when requested - although if you wanted to book a package without breakfast there is a lovely restaurant just opposite which serves them cheaper than the hotel One to try next time I think. All in all a great experience.

Stay was good and at the centre of everything but.

A good stay in this hotel and a super location apart from shower left a lot to be desired as the water pressure was awful and literally meant you couldn't stand under the shower!!!!!! On speaking to the reception I was told that nothing could be done!!! Also the radiators made a dreadful knocking noise at about 5.45am each morning which kept you awake.

Nice Hotel in good location but ...

Posted Apr 4, 2014
The Hilton is a nice 4 star hotel in a good location as a base for the sights of York. However, there was a constant noise from the heating system, throughout the day and night, although this was switched off when I mentioned it to Reception.

Good Hotel close to the centre

Posted Apr 4, 2014
Pros: It was close to the centre and very comfortable and bright with great staff
Cons: Possibly air con in the rooms
Location: The location was good, close to the town, jorvic centre and other amenities
We could not fault the hotel apart from the breakfast service. It said breakfast was served between 7 and 10, we went in at 9.30 and were greeted and seated, the quality of food was excellent but staff started clearing things away at 9.55 and when we went over for toast were told there was none available as things were packed away. we were disappointed and felt that they wanted us out ,I'm only glad it wasn't 10.50 when we went in, and Twenty pounds as well !

Very small rooms

Posted Mar 31, 2014
I was on a birthday weekend with my two daughters so we shared a room. The room had 2 double beds and there was just room to squeeze round the beds - disappointingly small with a bathroom the size of a small cupboard. Not worth the £300! (Breakfast not included). Would definitely not recommend it.

Poor for the price. And the Brand name.

Posted Mar 25, 2014
Pros: Location
Marginally better than a low budget Travel Type Motel. Did not expect opulence or grandeur as it was a red-brick fairly new building. But expected the Hilton Brand to offer more. If I paid say £80 I would deem it acceptable. But at +£150 it was poor. I have paid £90 for city centre location Radisson and Macdonald hotels and felt they were worth the £150 paid for Hilton York. Plus the shower barely worked. As it was a gift for my partner, I was disappointed.

Centrally Located Hotel

Good hotel, well located for all York attractions. About 10 to 15 minute walk from rail station. Good value with the Expedia price. Would use again.
