Beautiful listed building in the heart of York

Posted Jul 3, 2014
Fantastic stay - only there for one night but wish it could have been longer. Wonderful welcome and helpful check in process, including escort to room and mini tour of the hotel and history. Room was recently refurbished to a high standard and whilst quite small was perfect for our needs. We didn't have an issue with this but if you're planning a stay, the car park is quite small and I would recommend booking parking at the same time as the hotel stay. Overall a beautiful hotel in a great setting, convenient for exploring York City Centre and the surrounding area.

Nice affordable stop off

Posted Jun 16, 2014
Pros: Location, friendly staff, room price, parking.
Cons: Decor was very dated.
Location: Near to the race course and historical sites.
Fantastic location with really friendly staff who were super helpful. We only stayed one night and this was a perfect hotel for this kind of stop off. Breakfast was tasty and for once the bacon wasn't salty! The only downside to this hotel is that it's a bit old and in need of a revamp. The room were very clean and comfortable but if I was staying longer than one night I'd expect a slightly more modern room. Overall really good and I would recommend staying here.

Close to city centre

Pros: Clea tidy and good breakfast
Cons: Get rid of the £10 car parking fee that has been introduced recently.
Pleasant staff but disappointed about £10 car park fee

close to centre but no noise

Posted Apr 15, 2014
Pros: everything!!! the location the staff the food was nothing we disliked
Cons: nothing really as I,m interested to see how the old hotel part will turn out like as its being done up
Location: great location, walking distance to the centre but not too noisy etc we did the shops by day and bars by night, it was ideal
we stayed in the cottage in the garden and it was so cute and adorable, very clean and spacious and our stay was amazing, the staff were so helpful and the hotel is so close to the centre but its so peaceful and quiet. The website doesn't show enough of the hotel as it was a lovely place and be even better once the main part is done, its has a feel of old York vintage style , mixed with the new bar,gym side. A lovely hotel for families, couples alike

Excellent location

Posted Feb 18, 2014
Pros: The staff
Cons: Some redecoration in the room, especially the shower (damp stains at the top of the walls and gaps in the grouting), needed.
Location: Only a few minutes walk from the main sights of York - and also within relatively easy walking distance from the station.
The excellent location and the very helpful and attentive staff make up for the rather basic standard of the room.

Short stay in cottage room and a twin room

Posted Jan 6, 2014 on Hotels.com
Nice old hotel, great location. Cottage was great and really big, twin room was quite small. Hotel rooms ready for some attention but this is starting Jan 14 . Bar qnd resturant were lovely. Breakfast was fab and service and staff were first class. Parking was found for both our cars and it is a two minute walk to the centre of York. Will stay again
