Great country inn near fantastic historic venues

Posted Jul 29, 2013 on Hotels.com
The Durham Ox is a great pleasure to stay at. The rooms are clean and modern and offer relaxing space next to the lively inn. The food is well prepared, good variety and wholesome. The breakfast is a delight, especially the full English. The staff are friendly and courteous. Well done!

Great Fun

Posted Jul 23, 2013
Pros: Good food, drink , service.
Location: As above, a long way outside York !
A great discovery, but although it has a York postal address and gives a good view of the city on a clear morning, it is some 13 miles outside and your site does not make that clear.

A dream

Posted Jul 18, 2013
Pros: Don't miss this gem!
Location: 10 min north of York! Very peaceful!
Absolutely amazing experience... We already want to go back! The cottages were beautiful and very well stocked with amenities! An absolute dream! The honesty bar was something I've never seen before and it was a nice touch to have local hike maps available!

Fab location, cosy pub and tasty menu

Posted Mar 21, 2013 on Hotels.com
We enjoyed our stay in this cosy and stylish pub. We stayed in the studio - a large room with living area, kitchen and huge bed as well as an outdoor seating area overlooking the countryside (although it was too cold to sit outside!) There was also a well stocked honesty bar which was a nice touch. The room was cold though and I think there may have been some problems with the boiler but as soon as we mentioned it they got straight onto the problem and fixed it quickly so it soon warmed up. The restaurant is obviously a popular one so we were grateful that they rang us before arrival to check if we wanted to book a table as it would have been disappointing if we hadnt been able to eat there that night. We chose the £75 meal for two which comprised a selection of canpaes, seafood sharing platter, spiced orange sorbet, chateaubriand with onion rings, chips, mushrooms, tomaotoes and bearnaise sauce then a platter of puddings. All very lovely but we were stuffed by the end of it! So, the best thing about this place is that it is a popular pub but that is also the downside as it was quite noisy in the room. Absolutly fine if you're staying up, which we were, but anyone wanting to go to bed before 1230 would have struggled with the noise. Breakfast the next day was great with a choice of lots of egg dishes as well as the more traditional full English. I would definitely recommend this as a restaurant and for overnight stays
