good value for moneyPosted Nov 21, 2013 on Hotels.com
good value for money- breakfast was good. The room was too small for a family ensuite room. It was adequate for a one night stay.

Friendly staff but run downPosted Oct 23, 2013 on Hotels.com
Friendly staff but very run down. Had to mend bed head & replace curtains on runner before going to bed! Basic facilities, small room & sliding door into bathroom, no hair dryer, Basic but well cooked breakfast

Very disappointed.Posted Jul 22, 2013
Pros: We all enjoyed our meal. The waitress was very friendly and attentive.
Cons: The dirty room with poor fixtures.
Location: It was accessible for our location which was Castle Howard, but couldnt find anywhere nearer at the time of booking.
We read some bad feedback regarding the hotel, but always go in open minded as everybody has different expectations. When we stepped into the hotel, we thought OK, just needs modernising and some TLC. Our room was on first floor and the floorboards creaked throughout. There was a toilet next to our room, so i checked it out thinking it might have a bath. It was disgusting and looked like it hadnt been touched for at least a month. When we got into our room i noticed the old dirty carpet straight away. The bathroom sink had a thick dirty scum mark around the plug hole. The shower had poor water flow and was just warm. The bath mat was threadbare. The room was in my opinion was overpriced massively at £80. I will never stay here again nor recommend to anyone. If i was a member of staff working there i would be embarrased. The only good thing i can say is the meal we had was quite nice and the waitress was really friendly and attentive.

I would definitely stay at the Steer Inn again.Posted Jul 1, 2013
Pros: Clean, quite, comfortable bed, good breakfast
Cons: Room a bit small.
Location: Good location on a main route into York. About 10 miles/20 minutes from the centre of York.
We stayed at the Steer Inn for only one night. There was plenty of parking. The room was a bit small, the double bed was against the wall on one side. I think it had been a larger room but the en-suite had then been added. The room bedroom and en-suite were both clean. We were worried about noise from the bar and restaurant below but this was not a problem. We returned from York (10 miles away) at about 22:30 and the restaurant was closed. We were woken by the return of a noisy family just before midnight but you cannot blame the hotel for that. The bed was comfortable and there was no traffic noise. The shower was of a standard domestic size with lots of pressure and hot water. Breakfast was full English and well cooked. I would have preferred more mushrooms and fewer beans but I did not go away hungry! Lady (owner?) who booked us in and served breakfast was very welcoming and helpful. I would definitely stay at the Steer Inn again.

AMAZING BAND MOSTLY AUTUMNPosted Jun 26, 2013 on Hotels.com
Cosy bedrooms and close enough to drive to all Yorks major attractions. Really amazing home cooked breakfast served by friendly owner. Would definitely go back

YORK stay Steer innPosted Jun 22, 2013 on Hotels.com
Our function in York coinciding with the races week-end meant that we were unable to book in town. The staff at the Steer Inn were extremely friendly and helpful, the bedroom,if a little small was spotlessly clean. For only one night, that mattered more than the size. Iam told the beer was good, my husband and friends having deplored the provision and quality of beer at our venue in town. The lady serving breakfast could have done with another member of staff to help her as she was rushed off her feet, but she kept smiling, did her very best and the breakfast was good. Last year, we paid double the price for a dusty room and a dreadful breakfast appallingly served. We know accommodation in york is expensive, so overall we are quite satisfied and think it was good value for money.
