Nice hotel a short taxi from York centre

Posted Apr 23, 2014
Pros: Good place near city, few good pubs nearby, room rate on Expedia was reasonable. Onsite spa and pool.
Cons: Public could have been cleaner, seemed every chair in the place had food on that had to be brushed off before you could sit. Bed old, sloped to middle
Location: Loads to do in York and only 5-10 minutes in a taxi. History, races, nice restaurants... A couple of nice pubs in walking distance as well.
Room nice, breakfast ok, facilities nice, great position.

near to the centre of yorl

Posted Apr 23, 2014
Pros: The pool and spa area were great. Room was clean
Cons: attention to detail. The net curtain in my room was hanging down and the paint work was very tired in parts of the hotel,eg. pool entrance door shaby
Location: Great location
I thought the staff were friendly and very supportive in my needs. I often stay in hotels and found that the appearance was fine at first glance but then on deeper inspection the paint work was very shabby in area's., which was disappointing because this was the only thing that let the hotel down. Going into the pool the connecting door looked terrible, as were the paintwork in some other area's. I would have expected a hotel of this type to continually maintain the hotel. the net curtains in my room were hanging down and it was really visible from the bed. Attention to detail would make this a really fantastic hotel.

Nice hotel located a short distance from York.

Posted Apr 22, 2014
Pros: The hotel has a nice indoor pool and there is plenty of outdoor space with seating overlooking York racecourse
Cons: Seating in bar and public areas needs updating as not very comfortable. Cobwebs in our bedroom suggest checking cleaning standards
Location: A pleasant 20 minute walk from York. Easy access to buses and trains. Visit Betty's Tearooms in Harrogate for the afternoon tea experience.
We stayed here over the Easter weekend and although very busy, we found the reception/ bar staff pleasant and helpful. There was limited seating in the public /bar areas, which were a little crowded during the busy times, although the outside terrace /gardens provided extra seating when the sun shone. We were a little disappointed with our attic style room on the top floor which had sloping ceilings and a half sized window making it feel quite small and dark. The decor was slightly dated and some of the fixtures broken or missing then the water in the bathroom stopped running late at night. We expected a better standard from a Marriott hotel so when we reported these issues we were offered compensation. Overall the hotel was ok but it does need some TLC to justify the charges.

Nice hotel, great location with parking near York

Posted Apr 22, 2014
This hotel was perfect for our family needs - a quick stop to break a journey from London to Scotland. The free parking was needed for us as we were driving, but the hotel is not too far from York and it is easily accessible. The leisure facilities were compact but sufficient, and welcome after a long journey. The food (dinner and breakfast) were both very good, no complaints. We enjoyed our stay and we would definitely use this hotel again.

quiet, comfortable and great for kids

Posted Apr 20, 2014
Pros: Quiet and comfortable.
Cons: Free wifi
Location: short drive to askham bar park and ride then straight into town to visit Castle Museum, Cliffords Tower and the Jorvik Centre.
The hotel is well located and very easy to get to. Parking was ample, and from the hotel it is a short drive to the park and ride which takes you directly into York centre. The room was large and quiet, with a generous bathroom and very comfortable. My children loved the pool, which was warm and safe. Breakfast was well organised with lots of choice. My only complaint is that wifi wasn't free and similarly, many of the TV channels were not available without paying.

Dear Sarah Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback and I am delighted you enjoyed your stay. We do offer free WiFi in our public areas and I will be sure to look into your comments about the TV channels as we have more than 40 free to view channels so I wonder if there may have been an issue with the system. Thank you again for your feedback and I hope we can welcome you back soon. Kindest regards Mark Leyland.

Excellent hotel on the Racecourse

Posted Apr 17, 2014
Pros: Facilities were excellent
Cons: Minor care and attention to guests as above
Location: Location is good. Not in dead-centre but really close by. Everything on hand in a great city to visit.
Excellent hotel. Hotel was extremely comfortable, room very good, excellent facilities. Whilst almost all of the staff were very good, check-in desk receptionist was a bit abrupt and guy in Leisure Centre was more interested in chatting to a bikinni-clad young woman, clearly a member of the facility and not an hotel guest. We often stay at Marriott hotels so great for three days ( apart from two small irritants with above named staff).

Fine but didn't sleep that well

Classy hotel but (for the price) beds too soft, rooms too warm, windows too small.
