not worth the price they charge

Pros: decent clean room. Plenty of parking as the A section lot was empty all four nights we were there which also made the place very quiet where we were.
Cons: better water pressure in the shower. better checklist to ensure all features of the room work before you check someone in to it.
Location: Traffic to get to downtown Northhampton (Main Street) was very congested from the motel.
We picked this location from the internet. It is close to I-91 but the northbound entrance to I-91 is blocked in Northampton. So getting back on highway north was a pain. Water pressure in the room, especially the shower was dismal. Television required housekeeping to come down and hook it up (signal and power) after we checked in and tried to use it. It was reasonably clean and we stayed four nights having already booked and paid but like I said, the cost per night was higher than I thought the place was worth. We'll try somewhere else next time we come to visit people in that area. Would have been nice to have some sort of coffee shop nearby but the interstate, a auto salvage yard across the street and some professional office buildings were all there was in the vicinity.

Old, smells, run down, dark, falling apart, staff not focus, plastic cups at breakfast and waitresses no where to be found most of the time. Ripp off.

Great hotel in the 5 college area.

Posted May 22, 2014
Pros: The hotel is close to Smith and Hampshire Colleges, and not far from Amherst, UMass, and Mt. Holyoke. The have a lively lounge with live music.
Expedia messed up my pre-paid reservation and the staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful! Even though none of it was their fault (they never received the reservation from Expedia), the staff at the hotel resolved our problem. The room was great, comfortable bed, lovely pool.

Great pool, super location for college visits

Posted Apr 28, 2014
Pros: Spacious rooms, central location to local colleges, museums, mountains, etc., lovely indoor pool under a dome.
Location: 5 College Consortium, museums, Emily Dickinson's home, lakes and rivers, mountains, Northampton, farms, horse riding, lots of arts and culture!
My daughters and I stayed here for it's central location to get to all the colleges in the 5 college consortium - UMass Amherst, Mount Holyoke, Smith, Hampshire and Amherst. It is right next to 91 North, so you can get anywhere quickly, and is just a 4 mile drive from the vibrant downtown Northampton. Plenty of parking, spacious rooms, and the best for our campus tour weary-feet - and gorgeous indoor pool. Covered by a massive dome and surrounded by giant potted plants, the pool was an oasis in the evenings. We were there in April, so the outdoor pool and amenities - outdoor bar and tennis courts weren't in use. If you are a parent with young children looking for a fun weekend getaway with lots of swimming, spring for a poolside room for easy access. The hotel has a rustic style, dark wood walls, and is in a suburban/rural location so it isn't fancy, yet has an old New England hospitality. In the mornings, you can get a quick continental breakfast to go or sit and enjoy something heartier. The blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup are great. If my girls can get into the schools they want to, I would certainly stay here again.

Don't Stay at the Clarion in Northampton, MA

Posted Apr 12, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Everything - definitely needs updating (the price we paid did not represent the quality we would have expected)! Not a very well run establishment.
We were put in a room right next to the laundry and it was obvious from the condition of the room that it was not rented regularly (missing lamps, broken plug on the lamp that was there, musty smell, bathroom in poor condition, carpets old and run down). Over all facilities were very disappointing and dated. We will not be staying here again - definitely not worth the price of the room!

Hotel restaurant cook needs an upgrade

Posted Feb 19, 2014
I booked a one night stay to break up my daughter's school vacation. We had a wonderful time at the pool and the room was to our standard. The down fall was breakfast. We ordered one pancake and eggs benedict (vegetarian style) and it took about a half hour for our food to arrive. Not to mention the pancake was not cooked all the way and my daughter refused to eat it. As for my meal, it was warm and the order was not complete. I was given one pouched egg and the vegetables (tomato and spinach) were placed on the english muffin and nothing more. Needless to say, our waitress was very kind and did not charge us for our meal. There were other patrons complaining as well. I would go back but will ask if there is a new cook, otherwise we would eat out.

Very pleasant

the room was very clean with very comfortable beds/good quality sheets/pillows. I wish there was a lounge chair--we only had a desk chair. the indoor swimming pool are is very nice--spacious and pretty. Downside -- our room was facing the back of the building and trucks (garbage or delivery) were there very early in the morning; so it got a bit noisy before the sunrise. In general, we had a very good stay and would recommend it to others.

Spacious room and building

Pros: Easy to get to, park very near the room, very near the town of Northampton.
Cons: Bath area is on the small side. Drain was semi-clogged, despite stopper being up.
Location: Although not in Northampton, it's less than a mile away. Northampton itself is a wonderful college town, full of great restaurants & stores.
I had to arrive very early before the usual check-in, and the receptionists were very nice about letting me take the room hours early. That made a huge difference to my day. They even gave me a better room for no extra.
