great downtown location

Overall a great hotel. The one thing out of sorts was our room was located just above the main entrance & that is the smoking area outside! We happened to be there on a hot wknd but were unable to open the windows or enjoy the balcony!

Nice old hotel brought into the 21st century.

Pros: Restaurants--esp. Sunday brunch. VERY comfortable bed.
Cons: Water faucet--takes forever to get hot water and then very slow. Outlet for computer plus very difficult to find and use.
Location: Smith College art museum. Campuses of Smith, Mt Holyoke, Amherst--old and lovely. Emily Dickinson house.
Very pleasant room and nice general circumstances, including restaurants, in the middle of Northampton.

Pros: Bartender from the tavern was my favorite staffer and seemed to know a lot about the old hotel and its past which was great.
Cons: signage leading to the hotel between the highway and the actual corner its on.
Location: overall great location and beside a mini mart which was handy given we arrived late and had an early meeting next day. Pretty town and nice people.
Came to Northampton on business and had a wonderful stay at this hotel. We found the bartender to be great to chat to and who offered history on the hotel which we enjoyed listening to. Cute boutique hotel with clean rooms and friendly staff.

Pros: The Wiggins bar is great. Love the brass around the elevators!
Cons: Room styling.
Location: What can you say, it's cute Northampton.
The hotel is nice and the Wiggins bar was fine downstairs for a late night meal but from a comparative value standpoint it wasn't worth the value. I believe our room was around $230. The hotel is clean and I love the old style brass grillwork everywhere but the rooms are older, small windows, etc. We stayed a few nights later at the Marlowe Hotel in Boston. The reg. rate there was about the same, $230 though we paid an extra $35 a night for a view of the James River. While parking was an additional $35 at the Marlowe and free at the Northampton, the amenities in the room, size of the room, decor, staff, concierge, etc., were a far better value at the Marlowe. We're paying premium prices here in Northamptom because there isn't that much lodging and nothing nice. They need to upgrade the facilities of the hote if they're going to keep charging these prices or we'll either do a B & B or cheaper motels next time.

Excellently Restored Historic Hotel

Pros: This is a beautifully refurbished hotel. The restored appointments were a pleasure.
Location: The location was perfect for us to easily and safely walk where we wanted to visit.
We had a very satisfying stay at the Hotel Northampton. We love staying at historic properties and this one was one of the best.

Nice hotel, walls of paper

The hotel is lovely, Wiggins Tavern unique--rustic and wonderful, and brunch delicious. However, we could hear everything the people next door said, even when they spoke in a normal tone of voice. It was an "adjacent" room with adjoining door but I expect a modicum of privacy -- no discount for the lack of it!
