Novotel Karlsruhe City

Although the hotel is OK, I would not call it value for money. If breakfast had been included, I would not mind paying the price, but it was €19 each on top of what I would say is quite a steep price for a fairly basic hotel, although it was very clean, very efficient, very friendly, etc. etc. Also, we had an 'executive' room, which is exactly the same as a normal room, but more expensive. For this I would expect free Internet access, but of course this is not the case.

Stylish and modern hotel. Excellent service from staff e.g. phoning gallery to check if open on a particular day. Lovely breakfast - lots of choice and if anything ran out it was re-stocked immediately. Room was lovely, very comfortable and clean. Very helpful that there was 20 minutes free internet use in lobby so were able to check in for flight for following day. Only took a few minutes to walk to the market square and and then on to sights. Karlsruhe itself was great - amazing galleries and really good feel. We'll definitely be back.

Overall, the hotel was very nice. Clean, modern, and a new building with parking garage under the hotel with good access via lift from the carpark to the reception. Good disabled access. Multilingual staff and signage no complaints about the accomodation. Unfortunatly, the Internet access in the hotel has been outsourced as a wifi pay per hour access with very poor signal quality and bad security. I was unable to use the Internet in the hotel, and would not consider the statement about internet access in room to be accurate. If you want internet access, find another hotel. Otherwise the hotel is fine. The current state of the city is very unfortunate as there is a very large amount of building and road work going on. The hotel can't be acccessed directly and requires navigation of the one way system and back streets to approach the road from the one direction, which is the opposite direction from the Autobahn. Any visitor not fluent in German and arrivnig by car will struggle. Basically, the city centre is currently one giant road work with temporary road lanes and signage. There are no signs directing to the hotel at all.

This hotel exceeded our expectations. Very clean and well maintained. The buffet breakfast was a welcome relief after a week of typical German breakfasts. However, finding the hotel was difficult even though our Garmin gps brought us to the far entrance to the underground parking structure. There was no signage indicating that there was parking there for the Novotel Hotel. After driving around the under ground parking lot we located the hotel entrance in a far corner of the lot. A sign outside would of helped.

Overall, the hotel is good. My mattress was not great, but OK. My biggest complaint (and this seems to be the case with many Accor hotels) is the Internet access. Because it's outsourced (T-Mobile for lobby wireless; another vendor for wired in the room) the hotel can pass on the responsibility. I had intermittent access in my room and couldn't even connect (for three days) in the lobby. When I talked to the staff, they said to call the provider. Who has time for this? I would think twice about staying here again because of this, which is a shame, because otherwise the hotel was fine.

arrived late night and checkin took too long. service was generally good otherwise.
