Nice and quiet

Posted Apr 22, 2014
We stayed at the Westin for an extended weekend of sightseeing in and around DC and Alexandria. The hotel is top notch, very clean and accommodating. They will drive you to and from most spots in old town Alexandria, and the train to DC is only a few blocks away. There are lots of restaurants nearby if you don't wish to travel, and the hotel provides a very quiet, safe, and relaxing spot to unwind after touring the area. Wonderful hotel

Not in an activity hub, but very nice

Posted Apr 14, 2014
There is not much to do in the immediate vicinity, but the Metro is a short walk away and the hotel is very nice. Rooms well equipped and comfortable. Staff very courteous and helpful. Restaurant is a good alternative if you decide to stay in for the night. Exercise facility has the basics and rental clothes were brand new and very convenient. Pool closes at 10 and shop in lobby had somewhat unpredictable hours. I've stayed here twice and will likely return.

Nice place; too bad they nickel and dime you

Posted Apr 3, 2014
Well located, close to Old Town, King Street station, etc. Literally 15 minutes from Reagan National. Modern facilities; rooms have no character but are perfectly comfortable. The gym could use a couple more pieces of equipment (it has the room), but ok, I can live with that. Now we get to the nickel and diming. (1) Valet parking is $26/day. PER DAY. So if you check in on Monday and leave on Wednesday you are talking about $78, even if you never use the car. You can park across the street for $10/day. (2) They have a fridge in the room, but no more minibar. If you want something on the typical minibar list, you can order it from room service. BUT, in addition to the usual inflated item prices, you pay a service fee plus a $3.50 delivery charge. (3) I pity the poor guest whose phone dies and he needs to make a local call in the room ($1.50), or whose laptop dies and she need to use one in the business center ($15 and up for internet access). (4) My biggest gripe - high speed wi-fi, which isn't really very fast, is $14.95/day. It really bugs me when a high end hotel won't provide free wi-fi. So would I recommend the hotel? Based on convenience and comfort, yes. But the add-on charges, particularly the wi-fi charge, would make me look for alternatives in the area.

Quiet Urban Oasis

Posted Mar 24, 2014
Pros: Quiet setting.
Cons: Shuttle to the King Street and waterfront restaurants as well as DC attractions could be improved.
Location: How about recruiting a few restaurants and shops to locate in the neighborhood?
This was my 4th or 5th time in this hotel and I've never been disappointed. Staff is very accommodating and eager to please.

Very nice hotel. Not much to do.

Posted Mar 18, 2014
Pros: Rooms are comfortable.
Cons: Nothing that is within their control.
Location: Downtown near the courthouse and Patent office. More businesses than markets, restaurants, etc. If you enjoy a little walking adventure, Old Town.
This hotel is immaculate and I enjoy it every time I attend a meeting there. There is not much to do unless you take the trolley to King St or the Metrorail. Very few places to eat nearby or within walking distance.

Great location and hotel.

Posted Mar 13, 2014
Pros: This is a true 4 star hotel, excellent quality in all aspects.
Cons: Sound proofing in rooms.
Location: Great access to anywhere. Construction on I95 made it not viable at the time we were there. What should have been a 10 minute trip turned into an hour
We were not too sure that we picked a great location when we arrived but it turned out perfectly for our needs. Access to the Metro ( the only way to go to DC proper ) and Old Town Alexandria was simple. The hotel itself was near ideal; comfortable, clean, nice restaurant/bar, wonderful shower. The only negative that we found was the noise in the next room, on day 1 , of our 4 night stay. It was not an issue the other 3 nights. Overall it was an excellent value, with free on street parking available after 5pm and weekends.

Excellent location near Old Town Alexandria

Pros: Well appointed rooms, as generally is the case with Westin
Cons: Free internet access.
We were just there for one night--an uneventful stay.

Best location for the USPTO.

Posted Mar 3, 2014
Cons: Guest service and business center!
This was my first stay. The hotel has a number of very good points but I was baffled when the first day I called and asked that a room service menu be delivered to my room since it was missing but it never arrived. I repeated the same the second and third day without any menu being delivered, despite promises that she would personally bring it to my room. I finally found a room service menu in the hotel gym and took it to my room. Very uneven guest service. I also found that the business center was lacking and more expensive than I expected. I typically prefer Marriott but I thought I would try Westin for this visit to the USPTO in Alexandria. I'm not sure where I will stay next time.

Good Location for a Weekend Getaway

Posted Feb 19, 2014
Want to be in the city and within reach of everything in D.C. for a weekend for two but off the high-density path and at a reasonable price? The Westin Alexandria is the place for you. D.C. Metro is about two blocks away and The Hoffman Center is within walking distance for shopping and movie theater with 22 screens. The hotel is very clean, very well maintained, and the staff very professional and attentive. We had a wonderful time!
