"Used Cars" of hotels - Are you kidding me?

Posted Sep 28, 2014
Pros: It was downtown, a bit far from the beach but still near shops and restaurants.
Cons: Improve the staff. The dark and grungy environment can't be improved easily, but an improved personality of the staff would go a long way.
Location: Shopping, Restaurants, Beach.
We stayed at three different hotels for our week long vacation, and checked into the Ambassador for our last day in Waikiki. We had booked this stay for 3, two adults and our 13 year old boy through Expedia. First off, no parking while trying to check in, so I stayed with the car to keep it out of the way. My wife waited in line and when finally got to one of the clerks, the clerk wouldn't check her in without me there. The clerk also tried to tell my wife that our already paid for stay didn't include a $30 fee which she wanted to charge for our son, plus a $20 "resort fee". The resort fee we knew about, but this place was anything but a resort...total ripoff! The charge for our kid...common again a total ripoff. The staffer was rude and only when I came in from the car did she agree to waive the $30 child fee. The hotel was dark and dingy. We were supposed to get water bottles(water not safe?), but didn't receive them most likely due to our disputing the extra charges for a pre-paid booking. We asked about options for parking and was told the only option was paying them $25 a night at their facility. We found streets which were free a short distance away, but with no help from the hotel. As I stated, we stayed at 3 different hotels, and while only one was spectacular, the Waikiki Sand Villa was such a better experience with super friendly staff and eager to help attitudes. Night and day difference and I would not stay at the Ambassador again if if it were free.

Well placed and convenient

Posted Sep 28, 2014
Pros: Convenient location, good general condition.
Cons: More clarity in the website.
Location: Waikiki Beach/precinct. Access to the whole city by bus.
We used the hotel as a base for a three day visit and found its location ideal. It is right on a busline and just a short walk from Waikiki Beach and the shopping/sightseeing centre of Waikiki. Hotel staff were helpful and courteous and the room was quite well appointed for this level of accommodation. The air conditioning was somewhat noisy, but effective nonetheless. The supply of free cold water at a fountain for refilling bottles was a welcome feature. We were surprised to pay a $20 per day surcharge which didn't seem to be listed anywhere on their website.

Do not stay here

Posted Sep 16, 2014
Within 15 minutes of checking in we checked out and because there was no refunds on our booking we lost our money but were totally ok with that. Under no circumstances were we staying in that room. Check in was a nightmare and slow and was our first impression of what was to come. As soon as we walked into our room we were disgusted. This is not a hotel. It is low income housing. The fact that they charge you an "amenities fee" is a disgrace. There are absolutely ZERO amenities. We walked out and booked a room at an amazing hotel at a walkin rate for LESS than we paid for this dump.

Dear Jackie: Thank you very much for your comments! We appreciate you taking the time to evaluate our property. We do understand about the elevator taking a while during the peak times of the day. Unfortunately we do not have service elevators and all hotel staff and guests use the three main elevators. We hope you will consider staying with us again. Much Mahalo! Roy Yamamoto General Manager

Much Mahalo for your kind comments! We appreciate your rating of our staff, which we are very proud of. Yes, our hotel is very convenient and accessible with the city bus line directly within a few yards of walking. Beach access is also convenient, especially to the non-crowded Ft. De Russy beach area. The restaurant selection close to our property will provide for many budget ranges. We look forward to your next visit and again, Mahalo! Roy Yamamoto General Manager

Poor relaxation facilities

Posted Sep 5, 2014
Pros: The actual location, at the Ewa end of Waikiki, and across from Ft. DeRussy park facilities was very pleasant.,
Cons: Makings for morning coffee, comfortable lounge chair for TV, simple furniture on lanai
Although the location of the hotel is convenient and pleasant, I found the room accomodations--No morning coffee facilities, only 2 straight back chairs not appropriate for casual lounging and/or TV watching, no furniture on the lanai to encourage use not at all accomadating! Quite frankly I will probably not return nor will I recommend it to friends. Sorry

Ambassador Hotel Worst Hotel Ever!!!!!!!

Posted Sep 2, 2014
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything!
This was by far the worst experience We've ever had. The room smelled of mildew. The lanai had a bucket for the water coming off the A/C unit that was full the entire time. The Lanai was wet with overflow . The housekeeping staff and maintenance were very nice but did not clean the rooms very well. And on top of all this they had the nerve to charge us a 20 dollar a day resort fee. Even though this place was far from being a resort.. No coffee in the rooms, the beds were horrific. I will never stay there again! By the way ,your hotel staff (front desk) were very rude and condescending!!!!

Suprise! Suprise! Suprise!

Posted Aug 31, 2014
Pros: Just an old hotel that is reasonably clean, safe and out of the main stream.
Cons: No coment at this time
Location: We generally leave the concrete jungle to enjoy the true beauty and the spirit of Aloha on the Island.
It's now my understanding the Ambassador Hotel is under new management and with that came with increased room rates, increased parking fee rates and the introduction to an Amenity Fee. The night manager Karla Millan who explained the fee's was rude, discourteous when I turned in my parking pass and inquired about the parking fees. I was then inform of the Amenity Fee which we weren't aware of it , didn't need it, didn't want it and didn't use any of the so called services. So why were we charged an extra $167.52 ? It was prudent of me to supress my thoughts while Ms Millan made a fool of herself and the hotel she represents. As frequent visitors to Hawaii and this Hotel, we have over looked their deficiencies and there are numerious ones and placed this Hotel in a brighter light. Our past complimentry letters may have been an insentive for management to blindside the visiting public. We more than likely will revisit Hawaii in the near future but I seriously doubt of any loyal patronage to the Ambassador Hotel. I hope and trust anyone reading this review really considers this Hotel as a place to stay.

5 night stay

Posted Aug 29, 2014
Pros: Staff were excellent.
Cons: Hotel could do with modernising throughout.
Location: Good location near to shops and beach.
Poor room on first night known as the standard room. Kitchenette was old and had burn marks all over .fridge was old too. Bathroom was so basic. The next morning we asked to change rooms. Nice room on 17th floor, balcony and ocean view. Kitchenette was clean and the fridge was near new. So much better than first impressions. Karla, the duty manager fixed everything for us and nothing was too much trouble. Would stay there again but only if we could get the same room.
