Hawaii revisited after 20 years

Posted Dec 20, 2014
Waikiki has changed since the last time we where there 20 years ago. A lot of high end stores, shops and has gotten quite expensive. The Hotel was really convenient to everything beach access, abc store, gas station, high end shops, freeway access. Staff are very helpful, very tourist oriented and accomodating. The hotel does not offer ambience, it is for people who are on the go and would just need a place to sleep. It is clean but you will see the wear and tear inside the rooms. The furnitures are simple and basic. This is not like Sheraton or your name brand hotels. Overall we were happy and content with our stay.

Motel grade quality. Unexpected resort fees.

Posted Dec 17, 2014
Pros: Friendly and attentive staff. Expedia advisor desk right across from concierge to answer questions for travel and booking tours etc.
Cons: Exterminate cockroaches in the rooms. Replace tiles in showers, add counter space in bathroom. Replace kitchen cabinets and appliances.
Location: Convenient and close to beach (10 min walk) and 1 block walk to main street in Waikiki (Kalakaua Ave). Downstairs there is a cafe and an ABC stores.
The 2 stars are for the friendly and accommodating staff. In a nutshell, this hotel provides motel-grade accommodation and is not even worthy of the 2.5 star expedia rating. I originally booked 10 nights at the Ambassador to accommodate my entire stay at Honolulu. After 4 days of disappointment I decided to leave the Ambassador for a cleaner hotel. Staff were friendly and accommodating and house keeping was diligent. I was caught off-guard by a $20 per night mandatory "resort fee". The resort fee was for in-room wifi, fitness centre and pool access, and bike rental (first 2 hours each day are free followed by $5 per hour rental), and water containers that were given to us to fill up from a water fountain water that was on the 1st level. I was charged $20 for the first night despite arriving at midnight and not taking advantage of any of the resort fee benefits which was disappointing. Room was very old and run-down. Vents in kitchen and bathroom were rusty and missing screws to attach them to the wall. They were also non-functioning. Bathroom had a small safe which was not fixed in the ground and easily removable if lifted. There was no counter space in the bathroom and the standup shower tiles were dirty and mouldy. Kitchen had rusty/musty cabinets but had all appliances and dishes although they were old. On 2 occasions I spotted cockroaches wandering around the kitchen and bathroom. That's when I decided to leave

Pros:

Nice hotel, as expected for the rate paid.

Pros: employees
Cons: Fix building construction details in rooms, bathrooms (paint, showers, walls)
Location: beach, restaurants, good location
Stayed just one night on our way elsewhere, and same on our coming back to USA

Posted Dec 12, 2014
Pros:
Cons:
Location:

Thank you for your comments. Our amenity fees are charged upon guest check in and charged for the days that you actually staying with us. At times, guests do get delayed due to weather or have to leave earlier than expected and when this occurs, we do not charge the service fee for the day not used and not charged ahead of time together when bookings are made. We hope this clarifies your question? We thank you for your patronage. Much Mahalo Roy Yamamoto General Manager

The photo's the hotel posted of this hotel are very misleading. The room I stayed in had a rusty fridge, paint peeling from the ceiling in the bathroom shower, the exterior door would not close properly, and many other things. I would never recommend this hotel.

Ambassador

Posted Dec 8, 2014
Pros: Location, location, location. It's not that costly for Hawaii. walking distance to most areas.
Cons: Some areas need a make-over. Let guests know about the hot water. I went down to the front desk to ask them how the hot water worked.
Location: Across from Fort DeRussy, quite area. Walking distance from beach, shopping and restaurants
Very old Hotel but in a great area. Rooms are in need of a make-over but still OK. Beds are great for sleeping. Staff is very friendly and pleasant. Hotel doesn't have much as far as food, but there are restaurants around the area very close. They have a $20.oo resort fee which is ridiculous. They say it's for the WIFI, game room and water bottle, business center stuff like that. The hot water takes FOREVER to get to your room. Turn the water on....wait 10 minutes and then go back to take a shower. Bus stops are close to hotel which is very nice. Some of the rooms have a full kitchen, which is nice to save on some money.

Posted Dec 8, 2014
Pros:
Location:
