“Changed rooms - it was like a different hotel.”
I booked this budget hotel in Waikiki because I was traveling alone over a very expensive weekend (Thanksgiving) and didn't want to break the bank. I knew also knew that Aqua has been buying up various properties at various price points, branding them, remodeling, and calling them Aqua. Which is fine, because that means the chain has contracts with suppliers for all their little commodities, like shampoo and robes. One thing re-branding cannot change, however, is location. This hotel is on Ala Moana, the main thoroughfare, smack dab in the middle of everything. So my room the first two nights was so unbelievably loud. I stayed last year in a hotel on the 405 in LA where they were doing on ramp construction at the exit and it wasn't this loud. Plus, My room, which was quite large and comfortable, had a lanai (balcony) that overlooked the seedy apartment building next door, where the residents' cigarette smoke wafted into my room each night and made me keep the windows closed. So the first day I requested a room change and I had to spend two nights in that room (boom! scream!) and then was sent ($15 more a night - worth it!) to a full on suite (full kitchen) with a lovely view of the pool (small) and palm trees. Like a different place. Had an excellent massage at the hotel spa, (I get massages regularly -very professional and competent therapist at Bamboo.) So, my advice is, if you say there, insist on a room overlooking the pool. And bring your own coffee.
“My mother did not like it.”
Roaches in the kitchen. The hotel staff did not show much concern. I think they should have upgraded her room or something.
“Won't go back”
The room was VERY small. The A/C turns on and off constantly. My feet hung off the bed and I'm only 6'. Bathroom shower, bath tube, would not drain so you stand in water when showering. $ 20.00 per day to park your car in an underground parking area that you have to many manuvers to get into a stall. Pool grounds are lovely and the people are very nice,.
“One of better experiences in Waikiki area”
Staff very accommodating and friendly. Rooms very clean. Spacious, but not huge rooms. We had corner room, and it had two balconies. One had partial Waikiki view, the other mountain and Kuhio Avenue view. No, this isn't your 4 or 5 star top notch hotel, but a well maintained boutique hotel where the staff gets to know you personally. Free coffee (really good), hot tea, iced water, tea, and lemon water. Pool area small but very eye appealing, pool clean. Only downfall is the lower story you stay (they only have 12 floors), it starts getting noisy at 6 am with the public bus service. They do, however, provide earplugs. I never had a problem, but I can see that many might. Request higher floor (8 or higher), ask Puna (guy that works the lobby) for suggestions, and have a great time. In a GREAT location close to EVERYTHING important to someone staying in Waikiki area.
“Very good Hotel”
I had a very nice time at Aqua Bamboo. Great location ... just 2 blocks to the most famous beach on earth. Lobby and employees were always welcoming. Loved the lemonade and lemon tea. Absolutely loved the two balconies in my room. Room was very clean, surprisingly spacious, and had everything I needed. In an area of huge hotels with thousands of rooms it was nice to have this smaller but very friendly and personal hotel with little touches that really stood out. The pool is smaller but was never crowded and the pool area is very much a little sanctuary in the bustling area of Waikiki. I would definitely recommend it.
“VERY NOISEY”
THE HOTEL WAS VERY NOISEY WITH CONSTRUCTION.WE WERE NOT ADVISED OF THIS BEFORE WE GOT THERE.
“Perfect for Our First Trip to Waikiki”
We have traveled all over the world, but had never been to Hawaii. We found the Aqua Bamboo Spa Hotel via Expedia. We have a very specific set of criteria for hotels: must have spas, must have recreational facilities/jacuzzis, must be located conveniently to public transit, must have a safe or safety deposit boxes for storage of valuables, must be clean, and have friendly, helpful staffing. This property met and exceeded all our criteria. The staff were very friendly, the room had cooking facilities in addition to a safe so preparing fresh meals was easy, and the cocktail hour by the pool with live entertainment and free massage, well, that was a very pleasant surprise. All our bus and shuttle connections were quick and easy due to its central location in Waikiki. It is not a luxurious hotel (not the Wynn Las Vegas), but a very comfortable, affordable place to stay. You can even use a big gas barbecue located poolside to grill up your dinner!

“Try somewhere else”
This is probably the worst value in a hotel I have ever experienced. Not only was their parking expensive, even by standards in the area, they had no space for my car requiring me to park in another hotel. This old hotel does not have central AC and uses, very noisy in the wall AC which kept us up all night. The room was very small, the bed was OK. Oahu is a wonderful island but Waikiki is unbelievably overcrowded.
“Loved it!!!”
My husband and I loved this hotel. We were within walking distance of everything, whether it be the beach, shopping, or bus. I used to live in Honolulu and have to say that I was very pleased with the surrounding area and the location of this hotel. We would definatley stay there again if we are blessed enough to return to Oahu! The staff was incredibly helpful and polite. The pool and room were beautiful and clean.
