Grand Waikikian - great location, poor service
Posted Jan 20, 2013 on Hotels.com
We've been coming to the Hilton Hawaiian Village since 1983. In recent years, the service (especially the front desk service) has declined dramatically. They seem to not care about customer service or satisfaction - very little aloha here. We were also surprised how poorly maintained the room was. This was our 3rd or 4th stay at Grand Waikikian (we've been staying here since it was newly built a few years ago) and the rooms are aging noticeably. There were dirty scuff marks, dings and chips on many walls, and chipped/peeling veneer on the kitchen cabinets and dining table. Nothing awful, but at this price point, we expected more. The complex also shuts down its fanciest (Paradise) pool early (7 pm), and another that remains open (Tapa pool) has no towel service in the evening. This hotel used to feel special, with lots of aloha. No more. I wish the Four Seasons could take it over and bring in new management, but it's Hilton's landmark Hawaii property, and they probably would never sell.

Fabulous--beyond our expectations, great location, new hotel!
Posted Jan 4, 2011
Our family of five just came back for 8 nights at the hotel. Great location on the lagoon-beach front. Newest tower in Hilton's vacation village. We had the 1 bedroom, which slept 5 comfortably, had a great new kitchen, washer/dryer and seperate bedroom and roomy bath. Very high end, great service, if we needed anything we just called and the staff was there with it in 10 minutes. Fun three tiered pool for adults and kids with 3-4 water slides. This end of Waikiki was nice and quiet with lots of room on the beach to yourself.

Best Waikiki Hotel
Posted Jan 4, 2011
After reading a few reviews complaining about service and crowds I was concerned. From the moment we arrived until we left all staff was extremely nice, helpful and seemed as they loved what they did. The hotel is beautiful. Rooms large and clean. We had a two bedroom, partial ocean view which was great. We could see all the towers around us, all the pools, the ocean and boat launch. We could see the fire works and their nightly hula/fire show from our room. Everything is a bit of a walk but, good exercise and views. The pools are a bit cold. The only down fall would be its almost impossible to use the elevators about 10-11am because of all the check outs. There would be lines downstairs and take about 20 mins to go downstairs. We would definetly stay here again.

Crowded Waikiki

Hilton has a few diff. towers which can B very confusing, U get hang of it towards end of UR vaca. 2 crowded & not very easy 2 get around due 2 constru & 1 way streets. Hotel rm is very nice, 2 sep bdrms w/a tub N master, + full kitchen. Only 1 set of 4 elevators 2 rms, lines were ridiculous @ times. Nice 2 know on last day that DVDs & Game rentals were free. Pool hrs bite, even worse 4 slides- kids under required height must have floaties, even if they know how 2 swim- DRAG! Also no life guards on duty, just patrol 4 the slides! Chairs fill up quick, very lil space near slides, more towards smaller pool. Lagoon is nice, take UR own swimming devices, rental prices R insane. Children’s free activities R more 4 adults & have certain age requmts along w/limited space, must sign up ASAP. Most places R within walking distance around Waikiki, only need a rental if U plan 2 drive North or East. The parking garage has elevators 2 hotel, located straight @ back of building, almost looks like U can’t drive towards it w/all loops 2 ea. level but U can! Parking is 24/ valet 31, can use UR rm key or grab a ticket. ABC stores R most helpful, some inexpensive others 2 expens. There is a boarding pass printer/check-in kiosk that U can use 4 your flight home, located next 2 concierge, around corner 4m front desk, which is where U can get free gift & discount card 4 stores located thruout Hilton resort. Would've been much more nice if just Grand Waikikian resort solo, & on the beach.

Great Family Hotel on Waikiki
Posted Jan 21, 2011
Hotel and room were very nice and family friendly. Plenty to do for every age. Appreciated the early arrival/departure lounge for those who arrive ealry and/or had a late flight out. Get your bathing suit out before you have your baggage stored by the bell capain and enjoy the pool and beach while you wait for checkin time. You can comfortably squeeze another day in by arriving early and departing late and taking advantage of this. I think they even have showers available.

Great family vacation spot
Posted Jan 12, 2011
Spectacular setting. Great family vacation hotel. Beautiful, clean property. Only negative was responsiveness to phone. Often slow response from operators and no answer from concierge when called. Once connected, service was good and in person service always great. Just not enough staff answering the phones.
