Very nice facility but management is lackingPosted Mar 3, 2014
Pros: The hotel itself is great, you must get a beach view an I would recommend the tower due to balconies. LOCATION, on the beach ++++++ for me.
Cons: How my situation was handled. Hotel's #1 job are to have you're room ready for you when you have it booked. They failed at this & lied to cover it up.
Location: Anything you want is near by, world class shopping, surfing, pools, clubs, bars, restaurants, semi-cheap markets, ect.
First of all the location of this hotel cannot be beat in my opinion. You will not need a car (buses go everywhere), literally on the beach, and for the most part a great staff. My ratings regarding the hotel staff & other things mostly revolve around a situation where my room was overbooked, leaving us to have to sleep in separate beds due to the fact there were no kings left. Not an ideal situation on you're first night in what is supposed to be a high end establishment. Making this situation worse was the fact I was lied to regarding what was happening. I was told by the front desk "the person in your room has a VERY late checkout, he will be out tonight & we will have the room ready for you first thing in the morning, come down by 10 A:M an the room will be all set." So I trusted in the employee, but off a lot of things for the night, didn't unpack an just relaxed. Woke up the next morning with plans to change rooms an unpack finally feeling like we've arrived, when things didn't start to add up. I was greeted by the manager at the front desk (just on coincidence) where the manager told me "That's impossible we were 100% booked yesterday, we won't have any rooms ready for a few hours." I was told he would "Upgrade" us, we were put in a room with a WORSE VIEW & the same size as I paid for AKA: Downgraded & lied to. Manager seemed to not care when I told him the whole story an was "upgraded," as well. Needless to say, 1.5 of my nights were ruined in HI.

This hotel has very central location on the beach.Posted Feb 27, 2014
The room was very clean, air quality in the room and hallways was fresh and even. Hotel had live music several times each day and activities of various kinds. Tours were available with pickup on site. The hotel also has a fair bit of veranda space facing the street or ocean for relaxation. Beach and pool are very nice. Room rates are good value for hotel class. Meals and drinks in the hotel restaurants and bar quite pricey. Hotel very central in Wakiki but street noise fairly high at times. There are lots of restaurants and shopping next to hotel.

Loved staying in the Banyan view courtyard room with the sounds of the ocean and the music from the courtyard below. Staff were courteous and unobtrusive. The rooms clean and well appointed. The restaurants served thoughtful flavorful dishes and the atmosphere relaxed and attentive.

Hotel directly on BeachPosted Feb 12, 2014
Pros: Beach side convenience. Room care. Valet convenience.
Cons: I could not keep the shower from leaking through the glass door -- one time I even flooded the bathroom floor and had to use a bath towel wipe it up.
Location: The city Zoo is 1/2 mile away - nice memorial grave to ancient Hawaiians. Pali Hwy scenic stop. Eating at the Princess Kaiulani. Cheeseburger in Para
Our overall experience was pleasing. It was our 40th anniversary celebration. The hotel provided champagne in our room. The room was upgraded from street side to ocean side - this was very appreciated, although we could not see Diamondhead from the room. The room was nicely cleaned each day. The valet parking was excellent, saving us much time and inconvenience. We stayed in the Moana Surfrider for our 25th anniversary and it had been wonderful. They upgraded us from street side to an upper floor in the Tower - ocean side. We watched the sun come up over Diamondhead every morning. We are not sure we can afford to stay in this hotel for our 45th anniversary - especially with the required fee for a SPA that we NEVER wanted and NEVER used. This and the food costs are too expensive. Drinks are pricesy but delicious.

Fantastic hotel, can't beat the location!Posted Feb 12, 2014
When it comes to original luxury in Waikiki, this is it. Classics Hawaiian atmosphere which is fantastic. Make sure you research the type of room you want since there are big differences between them! Hence the price difference. Tower, Banyan and Diamond. We stayed in the Diamond wing, had an incredible direct ocean view and fell asleep to the sound of the waves each night!

Beautiful hotel and great locationPosted Feb 12, 2014
Pros: Location, beach views
Cons: More front desk staff- one or two people to serve guests. Check-in time is 3pm and they do not expedite the process even if you're there early!
Location: The beach! Shopping: DFS, Macy's, ABC Store out front which is convenient The Cheesecake Factory, Duke's, King's Farmer's Markets
The Moana Surfrider is a premium hotel with Waikiki beach right on its back doorstep. The hotel is immaculate - the bed and pillows are heavenly, plenty of seating - rocking chairs at the front and back of the hotel to marvel the beach or the busy main street and most of all the location is great with most shops opening to 11pm.

Beach front hotelPosted Feb 6, 2014
Pros: It was grand and yet felt like home at the same time.
Cons: Sometimes it was hard to get a chair by the pool.
Location: It is located in the heart of Waikiki right on the beach.
We spent seven nights at the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. The Moana truly lives up to its reputation of being the Grand Lady!
