Definitly the place to stay
Posted Jan 12, 2013
Pros: Comfortable Room, View of the Ocean was Amazing!
Cons: Food quality and cost at the hotel and surrounding hotels was ordinary. Short walk to surrounding restaurants fixed that problem nicely!
Location: Location is Perfect
Staff were absolutely brilliant. Bathroom is a bit of a squeeze in the historic building, but the rooms are more charming. Ocean view is magnificent.

I'm used to the Maui 4 Seasons
Posted Jan 28, 2013
I booked this trip late and there weren't good airline options for Mauii, so I gave Honolulu a try. Based on Expedia's ratings, I selected The Royal Hawaiian. It was just ok (using Grand Wailea and 4 Seasons as my baseline). There is one pool at the resort and it is in shade all day due to trees. The pool is very small - i'd say 30' diameter circle. However, there is an agreement with the Sheraton next door, so if you are willing to walk a few minutes, you will have access to a larger pool setting. At the Sheraton, there are a couple pools joined together by a few small slides. The slides were good for the kids (ages 6, 11 and 13) for about 2 rides each. There was very limited seating, unless you are willing to rent a chair or cabana. The beach was nice, and just steps from the hotel. If you are interested, there are boards to rent, and it looked like there were a couple evening cruise options leaving immediately in front of the hotel. There was 1 restaurant - and it was fine. The breakfast portions were surprisingly small off the kids menu -- even my 6 year old was still hungry after eating. All in, this place was just ok, but no more than a 3 star in my book.

Historic Honolulu on the best Waikiki beach spot
Posted Jan 24, 2013
Pros: Historic design, beautiful landscaping, great service, location
Cons: We rented beach cabana chairs for a few days and it would have been nice if there was bar / food service there - no one came around once!
Location: Shopping, beach, EVERYTHING. Make sure to hit Panya - amazing bakery!
LOVED this hotel - it was beautiful and the service was impeccable. The rooms are a little smaller than say a Marriott or Starwood resort, but there is plenty of space. There is no better spot on Waikiki beach - you can walk everywhere from the RH! We will definitely be returning annually!

Nice hotel. Very pretty.
Posted Jan 13, 2013
Pros: The staff was very helpful and friendly.
Cons: I think that you should provided beach chairs on the beach at no additional cost.
Location: Very convenient to everything. Restraunts and shopping within walking distance.
The place was very pretty and nice. It was expensive and they charged an additional $37.00 per night fee per room, which I understand part of that fee was for vallet parking if you had a car. The one thing that dissapointed me was the beach chairs rental. You could pay $40.00 a day right behind the restraunt, or for $50.00 a day to be right on the water. You would think that a luxurious hotel would provide you with beach chairs. Last year we stayed at the Ritz Carlton in the Virgin Islands, in which that was one of the things that they furnished, and every other place I have stayed from a 4 - 5 star hotel this has always been furnished. We ended up spending more time at the pool than on the beach, they did provide chairs around the pool side. You go to these places to be on the beach, so that was a dissapointment, other than that the hotel was nice and everything was within walking distance.

No fun on the beach at Royal Hawaiian!
Posted Jan 15, 2013
Pros: Spacious room, tropical gardens.
Cons: Charge for beach access.
Location: Right in the heart of the action.
After paying a compulsory "resort fee" of over $36 per day we were disappointed to find that if you wanted to relax on the Royal Hawaiian section of the beach you were hit with an additional $40 per day if you wanted to use a banana lounge and a beach umbrella! Really spoilt the beach experience for us. Otherwise the hotel was amazing.

The Royal Hawaiian, historical luxury
Posted Jan 13, 2013
Pros: The bed, the historical tour with Kealohalani.
Cons: It was all wonderful
Location: On Waikiki beach. Lovely grounds.
A luxury experience. One of the two first Waikiki hotels, built in the 1920's. Wonderful historical photos on the walls and artifacts in cabinets. Took the historical tour and it was full of the early days of Waikiki, the Royal and it's guests. The resort fee included self parking, though you can delight in walking on the beach and shopping, restauranting if you like. Staff was very friendly and truly treated us with aloha. Pricy, but we felt we had to stay at this beautiful historical hotel at least once in our lives. Breakfast at the Surf Lanai or a Mai Tai in the afternoon, looking at Diamond Head really close, the iconic Waikiki beach with surfers taking the gentle waves, we had a vey special time.
