“July 5-10 Stay”
I stayed a the Carleton for 6 days and it was ALWAYS a welcomed site to see! The bed felt just like my Sleep Number bed ; comfortable!!! Clean linen, COOL /COLD A/C ( I was in the area during their upteemth heatwave!). The refreshing bottle of complimentary water was a plus! Courteous, respectful and dependable staff; cabs called, directions and Internet access available. LOVED their in-house dining restaurant ( bartender makes a DELICIOUS Mojito!!! :] ) It's quiet, welcoming and a great short or long term getaway. Price was perfect for its location right off of 290 and the Green Line train is one block up ; good restaurants, fast food and eateries; quaint area. If you got boxes to mail , UPS is 3 blocks up .
“Great place to stay”
Loved the hotel. Room was clean and roomy. Bathroom eas great and there was a little kitchenette off to the side. Only a block from the el, but you could not hear it.
“A true gem hidden west of downtown Chicago”
I was truly surprised by this hotel. For travelers that need a hotel west of Downtown Chicago, north of Midway Airport or South of Ohare Airport this is a great property. I was attending a convention at the McCormick Place and all the downtown hotels were sold out or priced into the stratosphere. The Carleton was not that far from Downtown in that it was not inconvenient to get downtown. I-290 is just south of the hotel the direct shot into town. But my enjoyment was the atmosphere of a classic old world hotel, with all of the modern needs you need. My bedroom and bathroom were of equal quality to what you would find at Greenbriar, The Homestead or Hotel Del Coranodo. There are two restaurants in the hotel, Poor Phils a sports bar and Barclays American Grille a casual upscale restaurant with really great entrees. I ate at both, dinner at Barclays and breakfast at Poor Phils to which both were great meals at reasonable prices. And then the 2nd best part of the hotel is its location in Oak Park and wonderful community in Chicago. The train into town is one block north of the hotel. And of course the hotel rate was very reasonable for what I received in value. This a great business person hotel and well suited for families.
“great hotel for business and pleasure!!”
Awesome area in the west chicago suburbs. We were here for 6 days and it was all great! The 2 restaurants in the hotel are so good that I would eat there every nite!!!
“Great hotel in a nice neighborhood!”
Very nice hotel. Close to the train and surrounded by a nice set of stores and restaurants. The room was clean and comfortable. We plan to use the Carleton again!
“Converted apartment was economical”
We did not realize that we were getting a room in the converted apartment complex behind the hotel until we arrived, but we did get a great break on the price because of this. The room had a kitchenette and a kitchen table with four chairs--an unexpected plus. The room was a little noisy, though because it was not well insulated. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay and thought the decor was cozy.
“Just Right”
We stayed in one of the motel rooms at street level. Our room had a table and chairs and kitchenette. We walked to Trader Joe's for breakfast and cocktail hour foods. We walked to all Frank Lloyd Wright attractions as well as the EL. It was a perfect choice for us. Poor Phil's restaurant was just right too.
“Nice Place to Stay!”
We again had a nice stay once again. We are return customers and would certainly be willing to stay here again. My wife and I recommend this hotel.
“Extremely impressed!!!!!!”
Loved this hotel! Clean, older but very nice. The area surrounding the hotel was a wonderful neighborhood and felt homey. The restaurants were good and the atmosphere was great with their outdoors dining...Definitely would stay there again, everytime!
“I would definitely return”
I just spent 3 nights at the Carleton of Oak Park in chicago. We were very confortable , loved the neighborhood. safe, clean, nice, and close to the El train to downtown. We would stay again for sure, but do wish there were more reasonable rates available, there and elsewhere in Chicago in the summer.
