“Would stay again”

Courteous staff, clean, quiet. The flooring and other decor are recently updated but consistent with the era during which the hotel and surrounding neighborhood were built. The bedroom was spacious and there was a kitchen/dining area adjacent--it used to be a residential hotel. Bathroom and kitchen were spotless.

“GREAT HOTEL”

All the nice things that have been said about this hotel are true. The staff were most helpful, going out of their way to arrange additional nights for us on an extremely busy weekend. The area surrounding the hotel is lovely and allow time to do the wonderful Frank Lloyd Wright homes which are within walking distance.Downtown is easily reached by El or Metra lines. The hotel for a relaxing stay.

“Lovely hotel”

Great hotel with a super cool historic vibe. My standard room was very big with a kitchenette, sitting room, and big bedroom. While some of the reviews say the hotel looked dirty, I say that it is older and has character. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with my stay and hope to come back!

“Will return”

We were pleased with our stay. The restaurant attached to the hotel was wonderful. We will go back for the food.

“oh, yeah”

No question, Oak Park is not adjacent to downtown Chicago! We decided to stay there because it was significantly cheaper than any of the central hotels ...and I think we'll be back! The Hotel has nice large rooms, excellent service, free wifi, a nice bar and breakfast place, is a 10 minute walk to the metro (about 15-30 minutes to the Loop), and you are also near "downtown" Oak Park with cafes, a few restaurants, a movie theatre and two bookstores to keep you occupied. It's also easy to reach from the freeway and while traffic is pretty crazy during rush hour (better to wait or take the El--you'll arrive at the same time regardless), at non-rush hour it's pretty easy to get into the city and navigate. If you like hustle and bustle 24/7, this hotel is not right for you--but if you like to unwind away from the city at the end of a busy day, then this is the perfect place: pick up a complimentary copy of Time Out, a free apple from the concierge desk, and then sink into one of the extra-deep bathtubs in your room away from all the noise and crazy.

“Charming hotel in a great location”

The Carleton has a charming European style. Our room was beautiful. The carpets in rooms and hall appeared new and were bright and clean. The location is outstanding - 3 minutes to the "el" to catch trains to Chicago. Or, if you stay in Oak Park, various ethnic restaurants and sandwich shops, as well as shopping, are about a 10 minute walk away.

“A gem just west of the city”

Great little hotel in Oak Park which is very clean and comfortable. Very good on premise restaurant, but conveniently located and within walking distance to other eating options downtown Oak Park. Only a block from the train to downtown Chicago for shopping and fun.
