lovely oak park

Posted Jul 25, 2015
nice hotel -- great location in oak park, close to the el -- good restaurant -- different types of rooms -- we stayed in an annex -- sort of a 50s feel, not my favorite, but clean and a value.

Wonderful location with lots of close restaurants.

Would certainly stay here again! A small kitchenette enabled us to make our own hot breakfast.

College Orientation

Posted Jul 22, 2015
Pros: The hotel has retained its early 20th Century charm and provided a comfortable oasis.
Cons: Although the price was fair, it seemed a little inflated since there was no breakfast included or pool area.
Location: The hotel was in a neighborhood that was alive with restaurants, shopping, historic sites, and a CTA stop.
We stayed at the Carleton during our son's college summer orientation. Even though the hotel was 40 minutes from the college by car, we found the commute to be manageable. This historic hotel has been restored and the rooms have a comfortable turn-of-the-century charm.

Nice place to relax...

Posted Jul 21, 2015
Pros: 1928 Hotel lobby redone, great location and less than 10 miles from downtown Chicago, great neighborhood for shops and several restaurants.
Cons: Nothing
Location: 10 miles from downtown, quiet neighborhood, 2 blocks to 'downtown' Oak Park, shops, restaurants...
Great neighborhood, quiet street, within a few blocks of several restaurants and nice little neighborhood stores...2 Resturant's in the hotel, great friendly staff

Front desk staff needs some people skills.

Posted Jul 7, 2015
Pros: Nice location, clean, close to transportation.
Cons: Staff may be trying to uphold a certain status, or feel, by their lack of friendliness or caring nature.
I arrived early to the hotel, as I had very early flights. Tried to get early check-in (12 pm) when hotel was not to capacity. Request was denied. After doing from shopping around town until check-in time (3pm), my room had no personal toiletries. At check-out, when the same gentlemen at the front desk checked me out, I asked if the motor lodge rooms come with such amenities. He stated yes, of course, shampoo, soap, etc, When I explained that mine did not have anything in it, he apologized (not felt), and offered to make an adjustment to my bill, but because I had prepaid through Expedia he could not make any adjustment. The whole trip was fine other than this staff members lack of assistance at check-in, and at check-out.

Quick visit to Chicago

Posted Jun 27, 2015
Pros: Location relating to nice little town, close to train station & proximity to Chicago.
Location: Little independent shops, cozy restaurants.
We came to Chicago to see a concert at the United Center. We wanted to stay near the downtown, but didn't want to pay downtown prices. The Carleton of Oak Park was the best of both worlds. A 3 minute walk plus a 30 minute $3 train ride brought us right to the heart of the city. The hotel had historic charm with all the modern amenities. The hotel offered free parking, wifi and YMCA health club access. Two great restaurant options plus many others in the Pleasant District. We were able to enjoy walking around this cute little town AND the big city each of our three day stay.

Clean room. Safe. Great location.

Posted Jun 17, 2015
Pros: Clean. Safe. Convenient. Hospitable.
Cons: Fresh brewed coffee for early risers. ( with cream)
Location: Great shops and food within walking distance. Train to downtown only a block away!
Very positive visit. Close to train system. Only downside was fresh coffee NOT available until 7am and only in the restaurant. It would be a great plus to have a couple of airpots of brewed coffee and cream available in the lobby for late night-ears and early risers.. Overall experience very favorable and would definitely stay there again.

I'm easy to please.

Posted Jun 9, 2015
Pros: Price.
Cons: I'd have rather stayed in the main building. To travel to Chicago these days you almost have to be a commodity trader, with prices fluctuation prices
Location: I didn't spend much time in the local area, but it seemed like a place with enough going on to spend an evening.
The hotel was clean, everything was there, the beds were OK. The price was good, and the ride to and from Downtown on the Green Line was quick, though not for those who are uncomfortable with a diverse group of fellow riders. The bar downstairs was a good place to age have a beer and look in on a ballgame before bed.
