Nice hotel but not centrally located

Pros: Very comfortable room, nice and helpful staff, and good service on the hotel shuttle.
Cons: The hotel is an older hotel that could use some updating; some rooms were in the process of updating so this is clearly going to improve shortly.
Location: Not much, at least without a car.
It is a good hotel for a conference or for relaxing around the pool but it is remote from any restaurants or other interesting areas. The hotel shuttle runs once an hour which enables guests to access Berkeley or, via public transit, San Francisco.

Location: Much less expensive than staying in San Francisco, easy on and off freeway to get to the city!
My daughter, her friend and I had a short but quaint stay... warm cookies were awesome!

Old hotel right on the water

Hotel was over booked and was given a room with two double beds instead of the king bed that we reserved and paid for. Hotel had a remodel attempt that was poorly done with the tub finish coming off in flakes. Also there was jackhammering going on down the hallway from 5-6:30 in the evening!

Nice hotel on the water

Location: Lots of restaurants. Pyramid Brewery is close by. Check out 4th Street.
A little off the beaten path, but convenient to Berkeley. The road leading to the hotel from the freeway is pretty bumpy, but once you get to the hotel, the grounds and hotel are very nice.

Four days in Bay Area

Pros: Cookies, views, pool/fitness center
Cons: cell phone service
Location: walking, biking, boating, kite flying
Lovely marina and park views. Nice place to walk outside and see boats and wildlife/birds. Two indoor pools and hot tubs. Fitness center with three lap lanes and hot tub were much quieter than family pool area. Restaurant was very good for morning brunch. Cookies on demands - always a plus but dangerous for continuous use ;-) Free bottled water on request. Cell phone reception was fair - for Verizon customers. Close to freeway for quick trips to downtown Oakland, Berkeley and trips to Alameda and Sausalito.

We always stay at Berkeley Marina, Double Tree when in SF area. We did not get our marina view as requested and we paid a month in advance so that was disappointing. The hotel staff and having the marina to walk around morning and evening made up for it. We wanted to relax and we did!

The hotel front desk was very rude.

Cons: Customer service.
Cecelia at the front desk was very rude. We have stayed at this hotel before and this time Expedia made a mistake. When my daughter got there, there were no longer any rooms available. They kept repeating that it was expedia;s problem. I simply wanted an email stating that my daughter had not stayed there because I wanted to make sure that I got the refund from expeda. They did let her use their phone at 2 AM to call me. I think that it would have been very simple for them to send an email saying that we did not use the reservation. All that she did was repeat the same phrase over and over again. It seemed that they could not be bothered. That is not the way you treat your customers. My daughter attends Berkeley and we are in the area quite often. We will not be staying there again!
