Convenient location

Posted Jul 28, 2015
When I travel to Berkeley I stay at Hotel Durant. Some of the rooms need bathroom fixture maintenance or furniture replacement/update.

Hotel is old and outdated.

Posted Jul 28, 2015
Pros: the staff.
Cons: It could use a renovation. Better parking.
Location: The town of Berkeley is very dirty. It was convenient for our concert at greek theater but next time I will stay in different town and drive in.
The staff is very nice. The rooms are way to small . The parking is very inconvenient and get there early or you will park on street. The elevator is small and scary.

Terrible Service

Posted Jul 22, 2015
We were unaware that parking was an extra cost, it is $16 per night for self parking, $26 per night for valet or meter street parking and you have to pay every 2 hours. The floors and walls are paper thin and you could hear every peep or sound. We brought our two small animals and left the room for two hours and because the walls are thin they barked a few times (not the whole two hours) because we would do random checks to make sure they were ok. With that being said we received 3 phone calls from one woman who threatened to kill our animals. The hotel staff was absolutely terrible from the time we checked in to the time we left. It seemed as if each staff member told us something different. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone

Good Berkeley location

Posted Jul 21, 2015
Pros: Well located, safe area. Had ice water available in the lobby which was great after a day of sightseeing.
Cons: Staff could be more helpful. When asked if there was a shuttle to downtown Bart, the clerk said there was a city bus but didn't know how often in ran
Location: Adjacent to campus; not far from botanical garden
Room was ready early in the day! Room itself well outfitted although sink in bath was miniscule. Given the option to not have daily housekeeping in exchange for snacks or beverages. The "opt out" reward could have been more substantial.

Dogs kept me up all night

Posted Jul 20, 2015
Pros: It has HBO
Cons: Thicker walls, more staff during late hours, no dog policies, quiet hour enforcement
Location: The location is great and convenient if UC Berkeley is your destination and if you want to have fun around Telegraph.
My sister will be starting at UC Berkeley in the fall. In preparation for the start of her semester, we decided to visit Berkeley to get a feel for the area. We chose the Hotel Durant due to it's proximity and convenience to the campus. Upon arrival, we were kindly greeted by the friendly staff. The room itself was fine - a little small - but fine. It wasn't until later in the evening, however, that we realized that the walls were paper thin! You could basically hear all of your neighbors conversations through the bathroom vent. I let this slide and tried my best to just ignore it. Around 10 pm, however, we began to hear an incessant barking coming from the room next door. Apparently, our neighbors decided to party and leave their dogs unattended. Around midnight, I called the front desk to complain, and nobody answered! After several minutes, the front desk staff finally picked up, and informed me that he was the only staff on the floor. Unbelievable. He offered to provide ear plugs (which were appreciated) but which did not completely mask the high-pitched barking from the yip-yappy dogs next door. The owners finally returned and the barking was put to rest, but I found it ridiculous that the staff could not do much more, other than provide ear plugs. I mean, we're paying to have a place to sleep peacefully! It's not cheap either! Avoid this place if you can!!!!! You wont get a good night's rest!! They should highly consider modifying their pet policy!!

All in All I'd stay again

Posted Jun 29, 2015
Pros: Homey and quaint feeling. It was close to dining
Location: Lot's of eateries, diners, and dives within a few minutes walk
Futon vs. a bed was a little shock, and the severe lack of free parking or expensive valet parking wasn't pleasing, but all in all, I'd stay again.
