Almost on campus

Posted Oct 22, 2014
Spent two days hanging out while my son spent time with friends as he explored the UCB campus. Allowed him to come and go and for me to be close by. I had the opportunity to explore as well. The hotel is my favorite boutique style. Old and very well kept. Up to date rooms with quirky touches.

Overpriced for what you get

Posted Oct 4, 2014
Pros: Fun decor -- The Graduate poster and related UCB decorations in room. Nice toiletries, but the bathroom is tiny and the shower is subpar for price.
Cons: Soundproofing. Training of desk staff (key cards didn't work/staff seemed less than pleased to greet me). No minibar--just phone option for delivery.
You are paying for the location at the Hotel Durant. It's a short walk to the stadium and The Greek Theater. The lackluster service, size of the rooms, bad TV reception, noise from within and outside the hotel are drawbacks. Currently, the restaurant and lobby are under renovation and there should be a reduction in price because of this. There are much better local options for this price.

CAL v. Colorado

Posted Sep 29, 2014
I had a much better bed this time, as somehow I wound up on the Executive Floor! The room was more spacious, and in much better condition than my previous stay. Two weeks prior, they had my husband and I on the second floor in a room with a bed that sagged in the middle! This weekend's room was completely fabulous and I will be back, for sure! The proximity to Tailgate at Clark-Kerr and the Memorial Stadium make this an ideal location. The front desk was wonderful when he checked me in. Very professional. The Sunday front desk left a bit more to be desired, however. I asked for cab. He called, but the cab never came. He never checked on me and I wound up using UBER. When he saw me still standing outside the hotel a half an hour later, he just kind of shrugged it off. Not cool. But the rest of the stay was great!!

Claims to be Boutique, but more of a frat house.

Posted Sep 29, 2014
The website looks like a nice boutique hotel, but the experience is more like a frat house. The staff were nice enough. More like teenagers than a helpful staff. When we asked for dinner recommendations, we were only told about "pizza and yogurt joints". There were college kids screaming outside our window until 2 am every night. This is the perfect place if you are young, single and want to check out the college. Otherwise, it's a pass.

Expensive, but a perfect location adjacent to Cal campus. Easy walking distance to campus, stadium, great restaurants and shops.

Small Rooms and Construction

Posted Sep 25, 2014
Pros: The decor was pretty and it had a lot of charm.
Cons: The staff should have notified us before our stay about the renovations and provided a discounted rate as we had already booked.
Location: Everything within walking distance including food and BART.
We were not notified until checking in that the hotel would be undergoing renovations during our stay. After the amount we paid, the lobby and dining room were not available for our stay. They provided a breakfast coupon to make up for it and the food was inedible. Our room was much smaller than the pictures of the room we selected. The parking lot was full and we were unable to park within the lot. On site parking was one of the main reason we selected this hotel. The staff was nice, but unconcerned with the details like all of the light bulbs burnt out in our room.

Business trip

Posted Sep 13, 2014
Lobby is inviting, room is small but comfortable. They did a good job refurbishing an order building. Henry's Restaurant has good food, variety of beverages, multiple screens throughout to allow for sports viewing, still quiet enough for casual conversations. Hotel staff was very accommodating, put my Fed Ex delivery and later my suitcase lost and found by American Airlines directly into my room in my absence. Hotel in on the southern border of U Cal Berkeley, convenient for campus activities, 10 min. walk to downtown center.

Cramped and Noisy

Posted Sep 8, 2014
To be fair, we stayed the weekend of the Berkeley vs Sacramento football game, so we knew it would get noisy - we just weren't prepared for how much! While the place is vintage, which I like, it feels very cramped. We received a full size bed instead of a queen. The location is far from quiet due to its location and full-size bar downstairs. For college students, this is like pollen to bees, lol. On the upside, the staff are very polite and courteous. The amenities are fine; standard.

Good location but otherwise disappointing

Posted Sep 8, 2014
We are regular visitors to Berkeley and were extremely disappointed by this hotel. The location is good and the staff were helpful but the amenities (small sink, shabby rooms with questionable decor, lumpy bed, creaky elevators and doors that stick) are in no way worth the relatively high price. Toilet paper and such was not replaced. Self-parking, booked for our whole stay, was initially fine but became a problem when the hotel re-sold our space for a football game, forcing us to pay for valet parking for a night. We had the impression of lack of staff training and lack of attention to detail, reflecting sloppy and perhaps cynical management. Could do much, much better.
