“Short stay in Berkeley”
Very good staff, who gave us a very nice room on the upper floors with a view of the Bay and the bridges. Many eating options close by in downtown Berkeley. Close to the BART station, if you want to go to San Francisco or even to take local transportation in the Berkeley or campus area.
“Great location”
This is our second stay at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza. Conveniently located across the street from BART, access to Bay area attractions and the airport is great. The hotel is comfortable, the rooms are thoughtfully redesigned in a recent remodel. This is a green hotel, and everything is environmentally sustainable including the soaps and shampoos. This is a quiet retreat in the midst of delicious cafes and restaurants within walking distance. I would highly recommend.
“Good Hotel, Great Area, Poor Parking”
The Shattuck is a refurbished older hotel. The windows had been replaced with aluminum, but at least the building stands. Parking was an issue: I was checked in on New Year's Eve. There was no valet, and I was told that the parking structure would be closing at 6 pm and not reopening until after I'd have checked out. Street parking was available for the afternoon, and the meters wouldn't be in operation on the holiday. Minor glitch, but nerve wracking. The room was pleasant with a big window, and the temperature was easily controled. Big closet. Desk chair was wobbley, but I wasn't doing real work. Bed was very comfortable, with good quality linens and a down comforter. Bathroom was spacious; the toiletries were good, although I'd like to see them use local Berkeley makers rather than something imported. Internet connection was fast, and TV channel selection good. The area around the hotel is very walkable and safe; the Art Deco main city library, city hall, and the high school are worth a stroll. Peet's Coffee is a block away, and there's a Starbuck's and a multiplex in the hotel. I had a good breakfast at the hotel restaurant (Five). The workout room is geared to cardio, but there is a 24-hour Fitness a couple of blocks away for weights, and the Cal campus for an outdoor run. The BART station is a block away, so anything accessible by BART is accessible to the hotel. I'd stay here again.
“Vey good hotel, excelent service, well located in Berkeley CA”
Clean, excellent service, simpatic people. Large rooms and confortable hotel. Beside that it is very well located in the heart of Berkeley next to BART (subway) with easy access to San Francisco and sorround.
“Awesome Botique Hotel”
I picked this hotel based on a friend's suggestion and was very very pleased. I had to commute to San Francisco every day and the hotel is literally just a few feet from the BART entrance. Hotel is clean, very new, incredibly comfy bed and pillows. The staff was super nice, and the experience was great. Excellent place for business travel.
“will use again definatley”
great room, great bar, exelent food, will use again.
“Bull's eye in Berkeley”
We stayed nearly 2 weeks at the hotel. The staff was friendly, humorous and personal without being invasive. The location is as good as it gets, with everything close by. It was not difficult to find overnight parking on the street within a block or two. We definitely would recommend the hotel both for business and pleasure!
“One block from Berkeley campus.”
Great Hotel! Very friendly and helpful staff. The only thing funky about the rooms are the glass doors that separate the bathroom from the main room.
“cute and fun hotel in Berkeley”
This hotel was recently renovated and its cute and the rooms are comfortable and its a great value for the area. ten times better than the holiday inn express down the road which is often the same price. great little bar. very comfortable. Just really fantastic.
“Great Five Star Business Traveler 'Old Style' 2010 Conveniences”
The Hotel Shattuck Plaza is an older hotel sucessfully brought totally up to date. From the marble entry to the lushly carpeted hallways and 100% modern (and comfortable) rooms, I recommend this hotel. Downtown Berkeley is, well, Downtown Berkely. But, if you are here for University business, or 'regular' business, as I was, you will not be dissatisfied. The 1960's and 70's counter-culture is honored by the 'do-not-disturb' door hangers displaying the 'give-me-peace' symbol' instead. This is a keeper! (I did not investigate the food/bevarage venues.)
