Paris in California

Wonderful hotel renovation. Color pallet, and textures are very European. Air handling systems were quiet and kept the room at a comfortable temperature. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Hotel was very quiet. One negative is parking. You have to park in a separate garage at $35 a day or hope to move your car prior to 9 a.m. from street parking.

Return Visitors

Pros: We got a room with a view of the Bay this time and it was lovely. Very few hotels these days have actual bath tubs and this one does.
Cons: I wish you could rent movies in the rooms. Sometimes its nice to chill out with some room service and a film after a busy day.
Location: The campus is lovely. There are always things going on. Fourth street is great for eating and shopping. The BART is great way to see San Francisco.
We have been staying at the Hotel Shattuck over the course of five years. We have tried other hotels in the area but none of them offer the proximity to the BART and Cal campus. The place is well appointed. The staff is great, friendly and helpful.

Excellent location, nice hotel

The hotel is very convenient if you are visiting Berkeley--right beside the BART station and a two minute walk to the campus. It has a good restaurant--FIVE--an every nice staff. The rooms are nice in a sort of European way.

Comfortable, quiet, and relaxing!

Posted Feb 22, 2015
Really needed a good nights sleep, we stayed somewhere the night before that was uncomfortable and noisy! From the moment we walked into the Shattuck Plaza we were treated to a wonderful experience! Only wish we would have spent our first night here and could have stayed longer! We'll definitely be back!

Parking

I would hope that the hotel can work out a parking arrangement with the city garage. Having no assistance with parking is an issue in staying at the hotel.

Alternative To Downtown?

I usually stay in downtown San Francisco on the expense account, but this was a nice change of pace. The Shattuck's a small boutique hotel in a nice older building. It's lively, bright, and cheerful, steps from the BART train (a 20-minute ride to the financial district), and smack in the middle of Berkeley, surrounded by street people, aging hippies, ethnic restaurants and interesting shops. Rooms and public areas are luxurious. A bit on the small side -- European-style -- but personally that's never bothered me: the streets and sights outside are what you come to a place to experience. Overall, a comfortable, surprisingly nice place to explore from.
