Well run hotel, safe and convenient location.

Posted Aug 26, 2014
Pros: Convenient location to Oakland and Berkeley and San Francisco.
Cons: Coffee from machine was weak - terrible like boiled socks - if forewarned, I could have brought my instant coffee stash.
Location: North and south Berkeley shops and especially the Fourth street area - from coffee bars to tea shops, designer ware and music on weekends.
Well trained staff to keep all services for the hotel available to guests. Also a clean, quiet and safe environment for the single female business traveler. Breakfast room clean and well stocked; front desk staff are friendly/knowledgeable about Oakland and surrounding areas resources. Cosmetics/d├ęcor of hotel are somewhat worn but can be overlooked. Definite problem with very slow Wi-Fi connections.

They ran out of towels. Someone's car got broken into next to ours. Elevator didn't work.

Good for the price

Posted Aug 24, 2014
Cons: Staff not very friendly.
Location: I wish I had more time because Berkley looked like a fun place to walk around.
I needed a place to stay near Emeryville that wasn't too expensive. This fit the bill. Still more money than I would have liked to spend for a quick one night just to drop my daughter off for college. But it was cheaper than most and had a good breakfast included.

Welcome to Broken Window Wide OPEN & Plugged Toile

Posted Aug 12, 2014
Pros: Fridge, and wet bar. Bed was alright. If you like animals the hotel is filled with them. Animal friendly.
Cons: TV was all snow. Wall Air conditioner was only good if you in front of it. Hot day in Berkeley. Stuffy, smelly, service, Animal allergies?
Location: Location is great...place is super run down.
Arrived at Berkeley at 7pm. Needed to be an event at 8pm by the University. Ran up stairs to take a shower and go to bathroom after 5 hour drive from central coast. It was chilly notice Window Wide open behind the TV and a large crack, no screen. Anybody could of jumped been inside. Toilet was clogged which was a disaster. I had to be at the event so I got dressed and left. Came back at 10 ish and told the front desk. Listen I have a cracked window, no screen and plugged toilet. The nite crew said I'll give you a plunger. You can fix it. I said "What" oh NO! You are going to do this...If not, I'm going to demand my money back. He reluctantly went up stairs and fixed it. "See" he said...like I was supposed to do it. Really. Then I fell asleep and woke up in the middle of the nite to small shaking Earthquake! Could it get any better?!

Strong chemical smell in building. Price too high.

Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: Breakfast is good.
Cons: Building needs a complete renovation or the price should be a lot less.
Location: Shady neighborhood. Far from the BART. Only via car accessible.
We arrived late to hear that our stay was canceled, although we prepaid! They were able to find two rooms in the supposedly filled motel. Large rooms, beds ok, but the building is worn and run down. I would also advice not to walk in the evening in that neighborhood.

AVOID IF YOU CAN. NO VALUE FOR MONEY

Posted Jul 28, 2014
Pros: If you rely on public transport there is a public bus stop round the corner which gives good connectivity to downtown
Cons: Almost everything
Location: Down town for party seen
The staff has a pleasant demeanor. The hotel Our room faced the main road and hence had to suffer street noise. We were lucky to be at ground level as the elevator was not working throughout our stay. Room had a stuffy smell. Wifi though complimentary was connectible in one corner of the room. Breakfast- be there early or nothing much would remain. Quality of food is bad... at best average

Walking distance to nice restaurants on 4th

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Cons: Housekeeping could have been friendlier... no smiling.
Location: It's on University, walking distance from shopping & nice restaurants on 4th, namely, Zut! Lovely place.
I was pleasantly surprised by La Quinta. Bed was comfy despite looking lumpy. Sufficient fitness room. They served decaf coffee all day near front desk. And breakfast was pretty good: eggs and thin bacon formed into circles for ease in making an egg mcmuffin, cereals, yogurt, waffles, apples, hb eggs, juices.

A place to sleep if noise doesn't bother you

Paper thin walls and ceilings, noisy pipes, near main road, single pane windows, some counter staff polite, some rude.

Back to Berkeley

Posted Jul 17, 2014
Pros: the clean room was wonderful
Cons: parking isn't terrible but could be a bit more lit at night
Location: The Albatross is a classic irish pub with a great beer selection and "real" dart boards. It's up on San Pablo less than a block to the left..cash only
After a week of different hotels from Yosemite to Monterey to Berkeley, it was so nice to walk into a super clean hotel and a nice roomy room to crash in. The beds were comfortable and the room felt clean and inviting. The location is nice and convenient for hanging out in Berkeley or getting on the highway for other adventures.
