“Old and lovely”

It's one hotel made out of four old mansions connected by a patio with rose gardens and fountains. The rooms are furnished with semi-antiques, the bathrooms modernized. For those who are tired of standard motel sterility and want something with beauty and character, this is it. Plus, the staff are helpful, the free breakfast features real food cooked on site, and it's right there on Telegraph Avenue within walking distance to the University. Oh yes, and there's always a fire in the lobby, which used to be the mansion's parlor.

“Unique (and shall definitely go back)”

For starters, I did not expect this place to have a real rose garden (they do and it smells wonderful). The service is prompt and polite. The front desk is quite helpful. Breakfast is a real spread! And the ambience is terrific. You can walk to UC Berkeley and there are plenty of restarants very close by. More importantly (in Berkeley) there's parking. I loved this place and the ambience. Everything is clean. Of course the place is old, but the condition is great.

“Charming and gracious place to stay”

The rooms range from smallish on upper floors to suites with fireplaces and garden views. The proprietors were friendly and helpful, and the massive, free breakfast every morning was great. Nice atmosphere and a lovely garden. I'd definitely recommend it. Make sure you don't get in too late so you can grab one of the limited parking spots.

“A pleasant surprise!!!”

I chose to stay at the Rose Garden Inn due to its convenience and accessibility. This was my last stop after a tiresome business road trip that involved many cities. I was very frustrated when I arrived and due to my temperment could have had an unpleasant experience, but that did not happen. Tricia, the group sales coordinator, was working the desk that evening and took very good care of me. The room was spacious, with beatiful woodwork, and a classy touch yet all of the modern amenities. I decided not to go out for dinner, which is what I usually do, but instead walked 1 and 1/2 blocks to the grocery store, got something to heat up for dinner and a nice bottle of wine and relaxed in the nice atmosphere of this hotel. The full breakfast in the morning was great and the outside seating with the beautiful gardens surrounding the Rose Garden Inn was very relaxing. I will stay here again whether it be on business or personnal.

“Unique Place to Stay in Berkeley”

Beautiful old home converted to a B&B. Rose garden surrounds the entire building. Lots of beautiful flowers, shrubs and hummingbirds. Could not believe what a nice spread they put out for guest breakfasts. Wonderful. Also located right next to Campus at Berkeley and the hot spots downtown. A real value.

“Great Little Hotel”

The hotel was exactly as expected from the information we received from Expedia and from Trip Adviser which I always use to check out hotels...there was only slight reservation was that the sink was ion the room and not in bathroom, but that was minor. The room was large and the bed was comfortable. The service was exceptional and included breakfast was varied and good. The hotel had two small parking lots and also could assist if you needed to park on the street, it was very conveniently located, for us New Yorkers, walking distance to the Berkeley campus, about 15/20 minutes, easy walk, and a 20 minute drive to downtown Oakland and about 35 minutes, no traffic to downtown San Francisco. There were several very good restaurants in the area, within walking distance...

A very pleasent experience

“A welcome discovery”

Having driven up and down University Avenue about 1000 times, I thought of lodging in Berkeley as a pretty sleazy prospect. The Rose Garden is far enough away from that "gourmet ghetto" squalor, yet within easy walking distance of Telegraph Ave and the UC campus, as well as an interesting 15-minute walk from the Ashby BART. A big beautiful rambling old palm-shaded Victorian mansion complex, lacking some newfangled amenities (the breakfast, for example, is your basic bacon-and-eggs-in-a-steam-tray affair, and the coffee is execrable, and there's no wireless in the rooms) but an honest value nonetheless.

Lots of charm to this place. Our room was small, but clean and well stocked. Great shower. Parking lot is only 18-20 spaces with 40 rooms. Not a big deal, lots of easy street parking. Can't say enough nice things about the helpful staff. Will definitely stay there again.
