The elevators were out of service the entire stay

Not fun with luggage on higher floors. A 50 minute massage is now 200 dollars. Unacceptable!!!!

Graduation treat

Posted May 25, 2015
We stayed at the Claremont so that we could attend the Berkeley Business School graduation ceremony. What a treat! Great view of the bay from a large, well-appointed room, comfortable bed, good coffee at the GrabAndGo breakfast and staff who remembered your name (Well done Nellie!). The Claremont is a grand old hotel but it still works very well.

Checked into a room that was not made.

Overall, my experience was average at best.it is a much older hotel, so the elevators are small and slow. The furnishings are outdated. The bed was very comfortable.

A Grand Hotel With Great Facilities

Posted May 15, 2015
Pros: History and charm. The Claremont was the largest resort hotel west of the Mississippi until after WWII. Great sports facilities
Cons: Guest rooms, which are basic. Beds are too soft.
Location: Restaurants--Chez Panisse, Pizzaiolo, Cesar. At the south end of the resort, La Fournee, Rick & Ann's and Peet's. Theater-Berkeley Rep. Tilden Park.
I've stayed at the Claremont at least 20 times in the past 25 years, and have seen it go from a spooky old-fashioned resort to a much nicer, more modern one. Fortunately, its charm is intact--the huge public rooms are especially impressive, with their high ceilings and attractive decor, and the bar is a hot spot with sweeping views. The Club has everything from tennis and swimming to a great gym and Pilates studio; since you'll be paying for it, you should take full advantage. The guest rooms at the Claremont are the downside: although all have been renovated over the years, they aren't luxurious by today's standards, except for the fact that many have Bay views. They can also be noisy, particularly if you're near the elevators. The other downside is that you have to pay for parking--there's nowhere else to leave your car, and it's $30 a night. But this year, the Claremont will begin a huge renovation that will bring the rooms up to the standard of the hotel, including new doors that will block out the sound from the hallways. It will also restore the lobby's original Bay View, which should be spectacular.

Your kind patronage over the years is of great value to us and we are delighted you continue to join us at The Claremont Hotel Club & Spa. We certainly have a rich history to share with our guests as our property will mark its 100th Anniversary this year. Beautiful historic hotel - Abysmal Service

Posted May 13, 2015
Pros: It was close to the location of our family activities in North Oakland
Cons: Service
Location: Access in/out of the hotel is congested and remote.
The hotel is historically beautiful and the valet staff was excellent. Registration was understaffed, the furniture is worn/stained, and the Meritage restaurant service for 9am Mother's Day breakfast was abysmal in all areas to include quality of food.

We appreciate you sharing your experience and although we are glad you enjoyed the charm of our historic property and location convenient for your trip, we never like to read when a guest feels their expectations weren't met in all ways. It is truly disheartening to know that we missed the opportunity to create a better experience for you and if you were disappointed by your breakfast dining experiences. Please know that someone here is always available should any concerns arise as we would be more than happy to provide you with a stay that exceeds all that you are looking for. Thank you for your time and candid review.

A Night to Remember

Posted May 1, 2015
Pros: the room had a view, they allowed our dog to stay with us and everyone was wonderful to deal with.
Cons: nothing!!!
Location: don't know, we live in the area but didn't do anything while staying here...just needed a room for the night because we ran out of space in our homes.
we reserved the room through Expedia late at night, and the reservation was not found immediately. Joy made sure to find it for me, put us in a great room with a view and even accommodated our dog! Demetrius was just as helpful and polite, and the whole experience was fantastic!!!

I booked a room with two double beds...didn't receive it. I had to ask for towels and robes. Towels in room had stains on them. Large yellow stains. The television didn't work properly. Disappointing and so many extra charges..small coffee is $4 downstairs..and extra 25$ to use pool etc which we didn't have to time to use arriving later in the evening and departing early in the morning.

It is truly disappointing when a guest leaves feeling they did not have their expectations met, nor does it reflect the high standards of service that we have set. We will take this as an opportunity to share your comments with our management team. While it is not clear in this forum as to how your reservations were made, it is regrettable if your guest room was not as you had wished or if you had any housekeeping or maintenance concerns. Our resort fee covers a variety of really amazing amenities at our resort including full use of our Aquatics Center, multiple fitness classes in our Club, child care, Internet and more. Please accept our most sincere apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced. While we never like to read that one of our guests was not fully satisfied, we are always grateful for the feedback.

Pros: Beautiful settling, comfortable places to dine or visit, wonderful views
I was in town for two meetings, one of which was in the hotel, and super comfortable. The environments and meals were wonderful, helping in the quality of the overall stay in Berkeley.

Nice hotel needs updating

Posted Apr 8, 2015
Pros: The architecture, the common spaces, the view
Cons: As above
We had to wait a little while to check in, but the front desk clerks were very pleasant. The lobby is beautiful, but the room we had only had one small window directly looking out over the roof with all of the HVAC etc. The room was mostly clean, but did have hairs in the shower, and cobwebs on the fire extinguisher. It had the smell of an old room which lingers on our clothes now that we have moved to the next hotel on our trip. The walls had pencil scribbles and chipped furniture.

We value all of our guests' feedback, positive or otherwise. Thank you for taking the time to provide your point of view. While we are certainly glad to know you enjoyed our public areas, it is regrettable if you encountered any housekeeping issues in your guest room. Please know that this is not typical and our associates have been alerted. We appreciate your comments and hope you will consider another stay so we can impress you at every turn.
