“fresh and pleasant,out of town”

My sister and I werent sure how it would work out to be outside of Oaxaca since we didnt have a car, but we were very happy with our choice.The fresher air and quiet were very welcome. Delightful breakfasts in the garden. Taxis were very reasonable and buses run every 10 to 20 minutes from a block away (super cheap) and take about 15 minutes to the center of town. We were there for the Day of the Dead celebration -- very lovely and intimate in the cemetary of San Felipe, just 2 blocks from the hotel .The hotel's main areas' decor lacks typical Mexican charm, but the bedrooms are pleasant ,spacious and very clean. Best of all was the smiling , helpful service.

When to go
The Day of the Dead celebrations from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 are very interesting and colorful. Its the beginning of the dry season so the weather is sunny almost every day, warm and pleasant in the middle of the day and sometimes a bit chilly in the evening and early morning. Its not yet as dusty as it can become later in the winter, and there are still plenty of flowers.
What to pack
Bring layers. You will need a light sweater or jacket and a couple of long sleeve shirts for early morning and evening. Women may want a pretty dress or skirt for evening, and you can buy beautiful rebozos and necklaces very reasonably in the craft markets in town . You can swim, but the water may be a bit chilly. T shirts are useful, but you can skip the shorts at this time of year. Jeans are good; most of the younger Mexicans wear them. Bring a hat if you have it. If not there are lots of nice hats available to buy at good prices. Sunblock of course. Good walking shoes: you will do lots of walking over fairly rough stone pavements.
