Beautiful gardens, comfortable room, helpful staff

Posted Jul 4, 2014
Pros: The cleanliness, helpful front desk staff, spacious room, price, and beautiful grounds.
Cons: There is a lot of road noise from the nearby major intersection, especially during the morning commute time. Earplugs are a must.
Location: The hotel is a pleasant 20 or so minute walk from Central Oaxaca and the Zocalo. Nearby are several wonderful cathedrals, museums, and galleries.
This hotel provided both the comfort and the nearness to historical parts of town that I was seeking. The low season (June) price made it a great value. Registration was smooth with the English-speaking manager, Juan, a great source of information about places that I wanted to see and facilities that I would need. The room itself was spacious and kept very clean (Thank you, Juana). Bathroom includes a large shower with plentiful hot water. The restaurant has a varied menu and the food is well-prepared and presented and includes some local specialties. The restaurant can be crowded, especially at weekend breakfast. Servers varied from very helpful (Pedro) and friendly to a few who were aloof and indifferent. The gardens are beautiful and well kept and include a parakeet aviary. My vacation plan was to alternate sightseeing both in Oaxaca and at nearby archeological sites with rest and relaxation. The quiet grounds and clean swimming pool made the hotel perfect for this plan.

Great hotel walking distance to historic center

Posted Feb 6, 2014
Spacious hotel with a huge lawn area, swimming pool and tennis courts. Great place to come back and relax after a day walking through the nearby historic center or shopping at the various galleries. Perfect for families with its open spaces. Also conveniently located less than three blocks from the first class bus terminal and convenient access to the airport.

A nice property at a reasonable price

Posted Jan 2, 2014
This is a nice tourist-quality hotel, not quite a luxury property. If you don't speak any Spanish and just want to spend your vacation in a resort, this might not be the place for you. But if you want a nice home base for your days in Oaxaca, it worked great. The room was spacious, beds comfortable, water hot, and staff pretty friendly. A single email to the hotel helped to handle an unplanned airline change, so that the rest of my group didn't have to sit in the lobby for 5 hours and wait for me. The breakfast buffet (at extra cost) was tasty and plentiful, too. At the desk in the lobby, we booked a day trip to Hierve el Aqua, with stops at a mezcal palenque, a textile artisan, and the world's widest tree - they gave us a nice discount and were pleasant and fun to tour with. The walk to the Zócalo, the museums, and the other tourist spots isn't bad at all, and if you'll be taking classes at the Instituto Cultural Oaxaca, you couldn't pick a better spot. Should I Have reason to return to Oaxaca, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here.

Great location in Oaxaca.

Cons: Too bad the very large pool wasn't heated. Big enough for lap swims but pretty chilly.
Location: The hotel dining room is to be recommended, especially the huge buffet breakfast. Also nice places to eat within walking area.
We were close to so many attractions, we walked to some and took a short inexpensive taxi ride to some. We signed up at the hotel for several out of town tours with Hector, a great guide and superb driver. Surrounding villages are charming and interesting, with different crafts in each. The hotel is large and has all facilities including a gift shop with reasonable prices and a charming staff.

Terrible hotel for business

Posted Nov 3, 2013
Pros: The staff. Great staff, doing their best to please their guests under the worst of cirmcumstances. Very gentle and helpful. Rooms were very clean.
Cons: Internet services, plumbing services, better management.
Location: Oaxaca is a fantastic city. The people are marvelous, local culture is rich, excellent handicrafts, beautiful architecture, great museums.
I booked this hotel because my convention was using it as its headquarters. It looked great in the pictures, a 4-star hotel. However, it was a very regrettable experience. The Internet service was useless everywhere by in the hotel lobby. Guests had to walk half a mile from their rooms in wings separated from the lobby by a big garden, under the rain, just to have Internet connection in the lobby. However, must of us needed on a regular basis, given our line of work. That was simply impossible. The business center was non-existent. Hotel workers had trouble getting scanned or faxed material, given how outdated their electronic equipement was. Water presssure in the shower was another disaster. The second your water was warm and ready for a relaxing shower, it would suddenly go off, or turn cold. This happens in many hotels, but here it was extreme, turning to dripping drops of water or a cold drizzle while your body is shampooed and soaped. For this lousy service, the price was outragenous. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Spacious hotel

The rooms were large, clean and the grounds were beautiful, including the pool. The staff in the restaurant were excellent and very attentive. The hotel is not close to the Centro, you still have to catch a bus or a taxi to get there, but you are very close to the hospital, the area is not in the best location, but there is an Irish bar just up the road, it's not as safe as the Centro. It's nice if you like a lot more space away from the mainstream, a great hotel for kids, and they have great tennis courts.
