Great vacation destination for families with kidsPosted Jul 16, 2013
Pros: Our nanny (Lisa) was wonderful and the other staff was also very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The resort is a bit dated and certain things are worn, but in good shape overall and with good amenities.
Location: Nice little beach with access to the big beach at Jewel next door.
This was our first stay at the Franklyn D Resort and we now understand why the resort has so many loyal, repeat customers. The concept of providing nannies to the guests is brilliant and we were extremely happy with our nanny, Lisa. She helped out with out 5-month old, giving us the opportunity to enjoy some R&R and have a true vacation. We would definitely go back! The nannies and staff really made this vacation a great experience. We also liked the large rooms and had a 2-bedroom beachfront room that was great because we have two small children. While the resort is not brand new, it is relatively small and intimate. That was nice because you never have to travel too far to meals or if you need something from your room. The food was good, especially the Jamaican fare. Our son also loved the waterslides, the kids club and the pools. We went during the slow season, which was nice because nothing was very crowded. While there were scheduled daily activities, we found that the boat captain was willing to take us out fishing or snorkeling any time we wanted. FDR is definitely a resort for families with children, not singles or couples looking for romance. Small children are a lot of work 24x7 even on vacation, but having a full-time vacation nanny means parents can have a true vacation.

Vacation Nanny... the best!Posted May 10, 2013
We stayed 10 days at the beginning of May (off season) and had an incredible experience. Excellent food, comfortable rooms, sun, sand, excellent snorkeling, nearby horseback riding-- what a vacation! FDR is such a friendly resort where you feel like you know the staff and other guests quickly. Our 16 month old loved the nanny and we loved having some time each afternoon without him!

Exactly what we hoped forPosted May 4, 2013
FDR was a great resort. It is a small resort but provided exceptional service. The nanny was fantastic she just did not watch after my 2 year old but was a playmate and became her friend. She always have different games and events for the baby to do. The room was clean and open with two California doors separating the main room and the bed room. Truly an all inclusive resort all food, drinks (including a bottle of wine for the room), and beach facilities (kayak, glass bottom boat). Staff was friendly knew us by our names by the end of the trip. Great place if you want to chill and hang around the resort not a great place if you are looking for night life or to go into town. The resort is in a remote location, however they do offer tours and free trips into Ocho Rios (1hr away). Overall we had a great time and it was nice to go on vacation with the little one but still get a break a few hrs everyday to hang out with out and take a nap on the beach again.

We will be back!Posted Apr 30, 2013
Pros: The vacation nanny was wonderful... We also loved the food.
Cons: Limited activities during slower season...
Location: Lovely location. The resort was safe and seemed well cared for.
We really enjoyed our stay at FDR. It is definately a resort for families with small children. Our vacation nanny was attentive and almost insisted that we take time for ourselves to relax. Our kids loved the time they spent with her so we took advantage when we felt it was appropriate. We met some wonderful people there too. The staff were great and the other families were so much fun. The food is all made from scratch including all the baked goods and the staff were very proud of this. The negatives were few... we did go at a "slower" time so there were less families in general. This meant that the usual schedules for activities were not always followed. The staff did try to accommodate us as much as possible. As well, the restaurants were on a rotating schedule however, if we wanted to have a specific item from any of the menus of the restaurants, they would prepare it especially for us, anytime. I believe that this is the type of resort that you should visit more than once. We certainly will!

Best place in the Caribbean for families.Posted Apr 25, 2013
This is a fantastic hotel for families with kids. Don't expect super-modern and fancy; but the place is designed for kids to play and parents to relax. We did.

Nice Family ResortPosted Apr 7, 2013 on Hotels.com
The resort has a lot to offer. It seems like it is really great for small children, teenagers not as much. It had a lot of things available but not very well advertised once you are there. You have to ask about the water activities etc. It is a beautiful setting and not too crowded. The drinks are small so you want to order two at a time and it takes a little while to get your food at the kids grill. The dinners at night are wonderful and the ambiance is beautiful. This is the first time we have been to a family resort so i do not have much to compare it to a little less exciting than the resorts we've been to before but very relaxing.

great family vacationPosted Apr 3, 2013
Pros: staff is great, and best resort for kids
Cons: food is ok
If you are looking for a holiday were food is the main attraction then this place isnt for you. but if you are looking for a place that is AMAZING for kids and families then book your trip to FDR. I have an 8 year old and a 4 year old and they were living the dream. Each guest is assigned a " nanny " and although there are organized activities, kids go and come as they please with their nanny. The hotel staff is very accommodating and you feel very welcomed.

Great family friendly holidayPosted Feb 4, 2013
Pros: Kids loved it
Cons: Run down hotel
This holiday is definitely for the kids, there is so much for them to do, and ours had a blast. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and made the stay that much more enjoyable. The staff put on a lot of activities for both adults and kids, and it's great that they really make the effort. The hotel itself is somewhat old and dated-rundown even, but they make a real effort to keep it neat, clean and tidy. The rooms were comfortable and the beds comfortable too. The food was just 'ok', with the Jamaican meal being the best one, I wish there had been more of those. I wouldn't return for the food, or the hotel amenities, but because of the fact that our kids had such a blast, we would return.

Perfect family resort with a nanny.Posted Jan 11, 2013
From the moment we arrived the staff were attentive and friendly. We were only there for 3 days but by the second day we really wished we had arranged to have stayed there longer. The nanny that we were allocated was fantastic with our 2 boys and 19 month old daughter. She arrived at 9 every morning and treated our kids like they were her own. Our boys can be a bit clingy but they had a really good time and the older one actually cried for the nanny when we left. We had a 2 bedroom ocean view suite which was huge and could have quite easily accommodated 6 people. My only 2 criticisms were that there was not enough Jamaican food on the menus and in my opinion the gaps on the banisters on the stairs and landing was a bit big for a family venue where children might be tempted to get themselves through. Nevertheless we are planning to book a full week there next summer.

Found our ideal vacation placePosted Aug 26, 2012
Pros: Our vacation nanny.
Cons: Food sometimes only just OK. Not enough shelf space in the room.
This resort is GREAT for families with children, thanks to the vacation nanny that is assigned to your room. This enabled us, the parents, to do excursions on our own while the kids were entertained by our nanny, who was very reliable. They cater to your, preteen and teen children. Rooms are nice, food is nice, facilities are nice, but service here is superb, and not only from our nanny. It is also a nice central spot for excursions into Ocho Rios and the north coast. If you have children and you want to have fun together and also be able to relax from them, then this is the place to go! Highly recommended.
