Nice hotel close to the beach
Posted Jan 18, 2013
Pros: Friendly staff, swim up bar
Cons: Better quality of food, more variety of beer
Location: Far from the airport but right next to Dunn river falls, dolphin cove, horseback riding and the zip line.
This hotel is awesome! Beautiful room, great staff, right on the ocean. Long bus ride from the airport but worth it and its close to all of the tourist attractions. I would definitely recommend this resort!

Would go again

Pros: Friendly staff, options for restaurants, entertainment, layout on beach and views.
Cons: Open hours for buffets, Cleaning rooms without having to call
Location: Dunn River's Falls, Dolphin Cove, Shopping downtown, Jet skis
Hotel itself was nicely laid out with many restaurants and entertainment. Towels and seats on beach readily available. My friends werent as impressed with the buffets (lack of proteins) but i was ok with it and was impressed with variety and freshness. There are other restaurants you can make reservations, those were good (steak house, Asian and gourmet). All drinks are included. I really enjoyed this hotel, id been to Jamaica before but Montego Bay, Ocho Rios is closer to many activities and hotel is within close proximity to all of it making it cheaper to get around; the ride from airport sucks and is pricey, I got price down eventually to $100. Once your in Ocho Rios though its better imo than Montego Bay. The rooms weren't always cleaned when we left for day and Id have to call them. Views and water were excellent. .Hotel staff was super friendly and prompt when we called and would call room to make sure we were satisfied. The rooms themselves arent "luxurious" but they are clean and comfortable.

The snorkeling on the beach is amazing!!
Posted Jan 14, 2013
Pros: The beach and reef. The entertainment staff was fun and friendly. They would sit and visit with you before shows and during the daily activities.
Cons: Work on the clarity of the pool water. It was too cloudy!!!
My husband and I have just returned from our 9th wedding anniversary at the Riu Ocho Rios. Our favorite part and where we spent most of our time was snorkeling along the reef that ran in front of the resort. There were so many fish(especially when you carry along bread). Saw a few sting rays, pufferfish, lion fish, crab, eel, and some colorful fish. The reef made the trip for us. We tried the hotel scuba course, but the pool was so cloudy, you couldn't see the instructor underwater. Needless to say, we didn't stay in the pool much--gross. We paid the $100pp fee to scuba dive in the ocean. I thought we would go to a beautiful reef. But, we just went to the outer reef in front of the hotel. It was so quick, we really didnt have much time to explore or really look at the reef. We saw more snorkeling at the reef in front of the hotel than scuba diving. We did the Dunn's River Falls/snorkeling trip. Although the falls are a little crowded(make sure to not go when a cruise ship is in port--I can only imagine the crowd on these days), it is worth seeing. The snorkeling included with this trip is pretty good. Make sure to book this trip on the beach at the watersport building. It's much cheaper. It was very windy while we were there. Kept us cool all day long. I'm not sure if that much wind is normal, the locals I asked said it was not. But weather was fabulous. The evening shows were fun and enjoyable. As long as you remember, it's not Broadway. It's entertainment!

Great hotel!

Pros: Very Clean, Nice Staff
Cons: The room was small
Location: Great location, close to many attractions
The hotel was very large and had a variety or food, drink, and entertainment options. Most surprisingly the hotel was extremely clean, the staff were constantly cleaning different parts of the hotel so that it was never sandy or wet with beach or pool water in the main corridors. The hotel staff especially the bar tenders was very nice. and ALL INCLUSIVE means all inclusive, you definitely get the best bang for your buck here! The worst thing about the stay was that the room was pretty small. we stayed in a jr. deluxe room with 2 queen beds. The beds were pushed together to make 1 large bed. But there was not enough room to spread them far apart how a normal room would be. I would definitely stay at another RIU hotel in the future!

Pros: They kept a restaurant open until 2am. Pool was very clean.
Cons: Guys on the beach selling stuff.
Location: Location is perfect
Had a great stay and would go back to this hotel. The only problem we had was getting to speak to someone at the front desk is was always busy with long lines and not enought people to help other than that the place was clean staff was friendly and helpful. Had a wonderful time.

Perfect relaxing vacation with friends
Posted Jan 7, 2013
This is the second all-inclusive resort I stayed at, and I had a great time. I was traveling with a large group of friends taking a vacation from medical school. The food was pretty good (especially the hash browns at breakfast), and was available at most times during the day. The best part was the included alcohol. The bar never stopped serving, though the drinks were a little weak, and there was a decently stocked bar in the room that was refilled every other day. There were lots of opportunities to go on excursions around the island too. This hotel provided me exactly what I needed to have a relaxing vacation. Perhaps the only negative comment I can make is that by the last day (I was there for 5 days) the food in the buffet was getting a little old. It wasn't so good that I wanted the same thing every day and there wasn't quite enough variety for breakfast. The dance club could use a better DJ too. His song choice was excellent, but he rarely allowed a song to play for its full length, instead typically changing songs after about a minute just when people were really getting into it.

Great hotel, Beautiful staff
Posted Jan 6, 2013
Pros: Staff, shows and restaurants
Cons: None
Location: Great location, close to Dunn's Falls, and Bob Marley house
Great experience, Once I got to the hotel the staff offer me and wife a drink, took our luggage and help us check inn in less than 5 minutes. Once in the room the bar was full of water, beer, sodas and liquor and the room was spotless. The staff , from server to performers were very helpful and friendly at all times and always had a smile in their faces. We have been to resorts in Panama, Puerto Rico and the US and this is the best stay so far.

Nice Beach, Great Service, Too much smoking
Posted Jan 3, 2013
The Riu Club in Ocho Rius is well kept and the vast majority of the staff is warm, friendly and very helpful. I left my iPhone on a high chair and a staff member ran after me to return it (I gave him a tip to thank him). The beach is also beautifully maintained and much longer than the resort next door. The downsides to this resort for our family were that smoking is allowed all around the resort, so we would be eating breakfast outside with people smoking all around us. I really think that they should designate special areas or make the resort non-smoking. In addition, the front desk could improve their efficiency in the check-in process. Finally, the first room that we had was extremely noisy with no hot water and we had to wait until the next day to move (in addition, they insisted that we leave our room at 11 am and wait for the next room to be available - despite the fact that it was not our fault that our room was unacceptable. This was not easy with a baby in tow). We also found the service in the Gourmet Restaurant to be very rude. However, no hotel or staff is perfect. This is our second trip to the Riu in Ocho Rios and our fifth stay overall in Riu's. We are more lukewarm after this stay than with previous stays, but overall not a bad hotel.

Pros: Poolside entertainment and throughout the hotel
Cons: Most staff was very nice, only a few not so friendly but I guess you will find not so nice people anywhere u go
Location: For a tourist great location. If you go to visit family plan on a long ride. Took us 2 hrs almost to get to Kingston.
Best hotel and entertainment . Period ! The entertainment by the poolside was great. The daily BBQ was a treat. The views from the room breathtaking ! Love this place can not wait to go back
