“recommmended by the doc1”
Fun, clean, helful, lovely! The place was safe, clean, considerate, easy to find, sweet beach and good food!
“VERY LOW KEY AND VERY QUIET”
Some people may want a lot of action during their stay, but we prefer it qiuet and peaceful. For us.. this was the perfect place, I think it had alot to do with the time of year (early October) and maybe the economy. The place is a bit dated but our room was very comfortable, and very spacious. The A/C worked great in the bedroom but not as good in the living room. We just kept the bedroom door open in the daytime and closed at night to keep it really cool. The staff was wonderful to us. I can not say enough about the beach, it was very clean and the water was warm. Whatever you need just ask the front desk, I am sure they will accomodate you. The food was always good, there were only 2-3 buffets when we were there, so we always got to order fresh from the menu.
“One of the BEST weeks of my life!!!”
As we arrived, the hotel staff greeted us with a drink (fruit punch) and carried our bags away. We checked in with ease, and the staff was more than willing to help us out with anything we needed. In our room our air conditioner kept messing up, but we could call and within minutes they were there to fix it and it would work the rest of the night! (spoke with others, their air was fine, it was just our room). Meals were fantastic! I was able to try some food I have never had before, yet there was also a familiar food each day as well. The beach was priceless. We went snorkling and had to stop at another resort which was a lot more expensive, but I would not pay the money to stay there. Shaw Park Beach was very private, There were no locals to bother you, and there was plenty of places to lay out for privacy. The resort could use a little paint and updating (a new roof was being installed while we were there), but overall it was amazing. I cannot express how fantastic the staff was at meeting our EVERY need immediately. We also got to know the staff on a more personal basis. They joked with us and talked to us like royalty. The bartenders would even have your drink ready as you were walking up to the bar b/c they were that attentitive in knowing and remembring your favorite drink. (only complaint about bar was they kept running out of bananas!) The only complaint I have about the resort is the sunburn I left with!
“Breathtaking natural beauty - Hidden Gem”
We wanted somewhere that we could truly relax - didn't care to go to town and get hasseled or on excuresions. Did it before, didn't need to do it again. If you want the mega-huge triple decker water slids with exciting things to constantly do - this isn't for you. Young people would be bored out of their minds. But if you want to be lulled to sleep by waves, and woke by exotic birds calling - five steps from beautiful sand and twenty from sea - this is your place. Food was pretty good, they try very hard. Leg of lamb, roast beef, fresh made to order omlets. Drinks were decent. Drinking water exceptional. This place was "THE" place to be in the 60's and not a lot of money has been dumped into it since then, but you cannot take away from it's natural beauty. Sets great in semi-private cove, just down from White River which is also beautiful, fresh water - spilling into the sea. Just watch out for the "Ganji Men" :) Air conditioning worked well, sheets and bed were comfortable - would not have changed a thing! We'll go back every year! You can keep your mega-resorts, I'll keep my hidden gem to myself! Also, very affordable.
“Great place to stay”
I enjoyed my stay there. It was close to a lot we wanted to do. I would recomend it again
“AWESOME VACATION AND EXCELLENT DEAL FOR THE MONEY!”
OK, first of all; all of you hoitie-toitie, uppity people need to go to Montego Bay and eat Tex-Mex, American/Canadian/British food and disco your feet off! This place is NOT for kids! It is for people whom enjoy and appreciate the authentic JAMAICAN CULTURE, ITS FOOD, LIFE STYLE and people. The rooms are RIGHT ON THE SAND! The ocean is out your window! There is no night life (well not comparitive to the big resorts) and very little water sports. The food was ALL Jamaican! The bartenders, wait staff and housekeepers were so friendly, I want to bring all of them back to the US, to teach the food/beverage industry here how service with a smile should be furnished. Our room was incredibly clean and neat. I asked for an iron & board;within 2 minutes it was at the door. I NEVER SAW A BUG! (just the little lizards on the patio) There is a HUGE coral reef in Cutlass bay right off of the hotels pier where we saw baracuda, large sting rays and brought back 5 HUGE conch shells, sea eggs and many other (probably illegal) creatures, while we snorkeled. There are kayaks, windsurfers and snokel gear are free. The jetskiers and fishermen come to the pier daily for rent. We fell in love with Smiley, Willy, Kemisha, Simone, Oral and all of the others that find the smallest ways to make you smile & laugh. There is NOTHING that they wouldn't do for you! The drinks are awesome and a little strong at times (amazing what a 50 cent tip will get you!) If you want to relax THIS PLACE IS PERFECT!
“Already planning next trip”
Husband and I went in March of '09. Loved every minute of it. G, Smiley, and Simone were great and the food was wonderful.
“Very Quiet and Secluded Retreat”
The hotel was small but very nice. It's more like a bed and breakfast type atmosphere. The area is very quiet and secluded. The food is good but typically local and British in style. The meals are always on time and the staff was amazing. The rooms all had a great view of the ocean. The beach was small but sufficient. The only downside was that the only activity rental available was kayaks. However, the kayaks were very nice and there were a lot of great reefs, cliffs, and rocks to explore in the ocean. The main part of town was about a 10 minute drive away that cost $10 per person. Shaw Park Gardens was amazing and highly recommended.
“Great service and attitude at Shaw Park”
I was very impressed at how attentive the staff was at the hotel. In addition, the food was great for an all inclusive resort. Not a large resort, but what it doesn't have in size it definitely makes up in service and food quality. I would go back.
“Excellent Value Hotel”
We spent 8 nights at the Shaw Park and really enjoyed our time there. We had a very nice room with a king bed and balcony overlooking the sea. Meals were buffet style with a wide variety of choices and very high quality. All drinks were included. The staff were all friendly and helpful and made you feel welcomed. There is a nice long beach area and chairs, umbrellas and towels are provided. The swimming pool is hugh and well maintained. Overall, the hotel is a wonderful and relaxing experience and excellent value.
