Small hotel with charmPosted Oct 21, 2013
Pros: It has an old-world elegance & charm, even though it was a bit run down. It was so romantic eating dinner in a quiet setting under the full moon.
Cons: It could use another lamp in the room, as well as a safe. The plants on the grounds are all overgrown.
Location: Ocho Rios had grown substantially since I was last there. It is a real shanty town with everyone hussling the tourists.
I had stayed at this hotel 30 years ago and had had fond memories from then. I knew that there were coral reefs right off the hotel site and so decided to return so I could snorkel right from its beach. The hotel was kind of run down but yet still had its charm. It was clean and the staff was so cordial and nice. When I originally came here, there was plenty of beaches all around, but now you can't find any public beaches. There's a wall (which is crumbling) and a few spots with steps to get down into the water. And there's jet skiis from neighboring hotels that are zooming past the hotel (over the reefs), which is kind of dangerous to the snorkelers.

Retreat at a Classic Beach HotelPosted Aug 15, 2013
Pros: I liked that though very reasonable the hotel didn't feel cheap. The private beach a dock was a definite plus.
Cons: Wifi in my room, would have been nice. But having to go to the lobby or bar for wifi kept me social.
Location: Cheap 10 minute cab ride to Dunns River Falls and Dolphin Cove.
I was looking for someplace near the water, comfortable, and quiet. The Silver Seas Hotel was perfect. This was probably a first-class resort hotel in its glory days. I'm not sure why it isn't much busier now, but I'm glad it wasn't crowded. My room was large and clean, with a big balcony and a great ocean view. This would be a great couples get-away. The water was warm and clear. There is a beautiful reef about 100 yards out with excellent snorkeling right in front of my room. The restaurant had great food at very reasonable prices. Great staff at the bar, which made it fun when I felt like being social. Walking distance to downtown Ocho Rios. I'll definitely be back!

Charming and originalPosted Apr 12, 2013
Pros: The view from the balcony and Donna the bar tender.
Cons: The receptionist.
Location: Set back from a busy street, a rare heaven in central Ochi.
This hotel is one of the oldest in Ochi and has all of the charm of its original features. Unlike the resort complexes in the area, it offers a genuine insight into Jamaica life and living. Set back from the roadside the hotel is quite literally on the ocean edge and the views at sunset are outstanding. Donna the bar tender is a god send to the hotel and completely makes up for the rude and grumpy receptionist. She will go the extra mile for you every time recommending the best places to see, get around and eat in the area. The rooms are lovely and the balcony's are huge with the best views around. If you are board of tedious resort hotels that offer the same experience whatever country you are in, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

hotel was close to a lot of attractionsPosted Apr 3, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel was very comfortable and clean, but there was a few plumbing issues. The hotel staff were outgoing and friendly. The view from the room was spectacular and I enjoyed the cool breeze that came off the sea.

Nice hotel for couplesPosted Apr 2, 2013
Upon entering the vicinity, one would assume that this hotel is a dump due to the front looking very run down. However, once inside the room you get a completely different feel. The rooms are very spacious and each comes with a fantastic view of the ocean with a private balcony. The hotel has its own beach and a pool for any water lovers. The beds could be updated but that was a minor issue. The hotel also comes with room service and has its own restaurant. But if one needs food elsewhere, the heart of Ocho Rios is only a 5 minute walk. The stay was overall am okay stay in a nice rustic and quiet hotel. I do recommend to couples.
