Rooms no bigger than a bed
It’s a budget hotel - I knew what I was paying for when I booked though. The annoyance is paying for a room with a window and only getting a windowless room. I asked for the room I paid for but they had none available. So paid extra for something I didn’t get. The room wasn’t clean also - hairs in my bed. It was 2am when I arrived so I just slept and then left.

Disappointing overall
While I was there my TV had fraided wires and I asked them to fix it they did not. when the window leaked on to my bed and I told them about, they did not checked it out or changed the linen. The service was poor I ask for them to phone a taxi for me, the receptionist was to busy so another person whom was a guest did it. Not satisfied, moved to another hotel after 4 days and they did not return the rest of my money. I have pictures of the TV cord that was fraid and the pictures of the bed after each rain storm. I really upset with that place, they make your referral business look bad. So out of the 30 days I booked I was there only 4. Want my money Back. Have receipt.. Thanks Robert Sousek

Know what it is before you book it....
This place has a lot of negative reviews, and I think that it's a little bit unfair. Maybe these people who made the reviews don't understand what they're getting when they book - or expect something a lot better for the peanuts that they pay. Long story short - this is not the Ritz. It is simply a place for people to stop and sleep. The rooms consist of a bed, and a bathroom, and precious little else. If you just want to get some rest while travelling, then it is perfect. The hotel is 1 minute from the bus station, 5 minutes from the main train station and a short taxi ride to the airport, so for people on their travels it is perfect. The hotel borrows from the Japanese concept of providing people with a place to sleep - a concept which is becoming more and more popular recently. That is exactly what I needed, and it provided that exactly to my preference. My advice is, look at the pictures, the rooms really are that small. They also let you check the room out before anything is confirmed, so if you don't like it don't stay. Simple. Here are my own personal downsides - the guys at reception struggled to find my bookings. Also their English level is very very low, practically zero, except for a couple of them, so brush up on your Russian/Ukrainian skills. The security guard guy doesn't have any people skills and is very reluctant to talk to you or treat you like a human. Finally, I had a very loud Ukrainian couple and their baby in the room next to mine.

Good for one night
Single room is very very small but includes TV, fridge, bathroom. No place to put your backpack down. Large cue for checking in at 14.00 precise. Breakfast hardly worthwhile. No atmosphere, no feeling you are welcome. Staff sits behind glass like a railway station.

October, 2013. The excellent location is about 200 meters from the main train station (easy walk) and adjacent to a bus terminal. I found the staff very helpful and easy to interact with. I stayed in a single room that must have been about 6 feet by 8 feet. A wall, with a large glass window, divides the bed from the tiny bathroom, and hopefully it will be removed in the future for easier access. There is no chest of draws, but there is a small table that folds out near the foot of the bed (so the bed is the chair). There is no closet, but there is a coat rack with hooks,. The free Wi-Fi is only accessible from the hotel lobby area; there are electric outlets available there. The heating vent is in the ceiling and I could not close it (the room was too warm for me); maybe the hotel staff can close it. Although it has a curtain, a shower door is needed for the shower, and a shelf is also needed in the shower. A large wide shelf also is needed on the wall next to and above the bed since there is not much room for anything except one piece of luggage at the foot of the bed. If you just need an inexpensive place to sleep and have one piece of luggage, this place will do.

Hotel people are peaceful and staff are very helpful for calling taxi for me every time I need to go some where. When they call a taxi for me the rate is usually a lot lower than when I try to catch a taxi myself.

It was my first time in Odessa.The accomodation of this Hotel are very comfortable cause its almost at the centre of the city.The room was small but with toilet inside and a shower.Also they have a laundry service and a buffet

I`d came to the Hotel early in the morning.I was afraid that they will tell me wait till the noon,but girl from reception desk told me that she can settle me even at 7 a.m,it was so sweet.The room was not big but very comfortable with A/C and internet.

The Hotel is situated close to train station.The good thing is that u may check in even at 7a.m surcharge.The shower was working perfect.The hot water was even at 3 a.m...The matress are very comfortable and linen are clean.I`d like everything

The pictures on the web site are accurate but deceiving as the angles make things look bigger than they are. I had a double room, double bed that is. The head and both sides of the bed touched the walls of the room, at the door there was just enough room to open door but not completely. I had to lift luggage in to room over bed, their were not stands or dressers in my room, a bed, a TV on top of a mini fridge and a bathroom. Odessa was so busy while I was their that even this place was turning away guests, I had pre booked and was stuck there. i asked for an extra towel, it took 2 days as they will not enter a room that has anyone staying in it if the person is not in the room. So housekeeping does not come to occupied rooms ever. This place is worth staying a way from!!

The Tokyo Star Hotel in Odessa, Ukraine, is a very busy hotel. Everyone knows it. The staff is very good. The location is very good, a bus station is next to it. The hotel is within walking distance of the city center. The rooms are very small, but, when the expensive hotels are booked, or you just need a place to flop, the cost is minimal.

ROOM WAS HOT, NO WI-FI IN ROOM. WI-FI IN MAIN HALL ON DELAPIDATED COUCH TO SET ON. SNACK BAR WAS HOT AND OF MINUTE SIZE. STAFF SPEAKS MINIMUM OF ENGLISH IF AT ALL. EVEN THE LOCAL UKRANIANS SAY IT IS A VERY ROUGH AREA OF TOWN, AND NOT SAFE FOR FORIEGNERS. NEXT DOOR TO CABLE CAR TERMINAL, NOISY ATMOSPHERE, EVEN EUROPEANS WERE SHOCKED ON HOW SMALL ROOMS WERE.

Just a lovely place! Smallest rooms ever. A lot of strange people running arround. You can hire a room for one hour so you will meet a lot pf couples there, that have a short meeting. The young woman in the reception hates you from the beginning and to the end of your stay. But if you used to backpacking - well I just love those places:-)

It's not for everyone, but if you only need a room for sleeping, and you like a bit of immersion in local colour, go for it because it's such a bargain. The rooms are crazily tiny, with no windows, and can get hot at night. Staff pretty grumpy. Gritty location by the tramshed (in fact, the hotel seems to have been converted from a tramshed), and by the local market. I liked being slightly off the tourist map, made me feel like an explorer. But the hotel is just a short walk from downtown, and even shorter walk from the train station.

Only If You've No Choice
When I told my taxi driver at the airport that I had reserved a room for two weeks at the Tokyo Star, he said he'd be happy to take me but that I would not want to stay there. He was right. I ended up finding other lodgings. The main reasons were: the hotel is rather far from the international area (Deribasovskaya St.) were a foreign visitor would prefer spending much of their time; the surrounding area and the people loitering nearby don't give confidence in security and safety; the hotel is under construction and hallways do not appear closed to outside access; a general odor of cigarettes; wireless access "in the lobby" sounded good, until I saw the lobby consisted of a dilapidated sofa in the hallway. These are just the impression I gained in my 20 minute inspection, since I decided not to stay there. Perhaps I would have been pleasantly surprised. It *IS* located conveniently near the large and impressive farmer's market. All the above said, the price was very low, and there's clearly a niche the Tokyo Star fills. I think very few foreign visitor would choose to stay there, however.

I booked a single room and I can literally stand up, spread my arms wide and touch each wall. You can't beat the price though and for a cheap place to stay, it's ok. There is plenty of shopping nearby and it's right by the train station and you can catch public city transport easily. It was a bit noisy because of the construction goingon and the walls are paper thin so if you have noisy neighbors, you'll hear everything. Bottom line: it's a cheap hotel, but the rooms were clean and for a few days (unfortunately, due to my situation I had to stay for 2 weeks) it's fine. You could always splurge and get a room with a double bed for twice the price, but as far as "roominess" goes, you just won't get it here.

Had to wait a long time for bags to be stored as we arrived 6 hours before check in. No flexibilty, but this was expected with a budget room. You get what you pay for to be honest. Cheaper than a hotel and same price as a hostel. good location for the train station and marshrutka station. Staff miserable but its understandable to be honest. I think someone else mentioned that you can buy rooms by the hour....This can be witnessed if you spend 10 mins in reception on the computer in the evening! No hassle to us though...again you get what you pay for.
