Loved the view and the service. So accommodating . Had a very nice view of the ocean and the surroundings were very nice. The only suggestion I would make is that the pool deck is very slippery with or without shoes when it is wet. Had a great time with the staff they were wonderful people. Loved our stay

The experience was fabulous
Hotel staff were pleasant and very helpful. Room was great with a nice view of the surrounding area. Pool was perfect for lounging or swimming laps. Breakfast was very nice. Waking up to singing birds was a nice change.

A real gem
Wonderful , absolutely wonderful. Loved the homemade breakfasts each morning, air conditioned cabin, beautifully groomed surroundings and pool. Lots of birds of color. The manager and assistants were always visible and willing to chat. The view is exceptional. Will definitely stay here again if it is available

Great place to bird watch and sunsets.
Amazing place to watch birds and sunsets! The staff, Jeffers and Orlando were exceptional and we enjoyed breakfast every morning in the common area watching birds. Don't forget to walk around the property grounds and explore. That said, we only had hot water one day we were there. We did notify staff and they tried to fix it but it never happened. I do not enjoy cold showers.

Amazing ocean view
Quite place, amazing view, very kind staff, too expensive for what you get, very few staff the bar tender is the recepcionist, waiter, and everything so you will have to wait. The pool do not have tiles, the room is nice but it could be good to have a refrigirator. The restaurant menú is to small and not for a hotel, they serve basically snacks.

Hotel Lookout at Playa Tortuga
Overall everything was great. When I read other reviews I thought there was more to walk to but that is not true. However, it is an easy drive to restaurants in the area and about a 10 minute drive to Uvita, 25 minutes to Dominical which offer more options for restaurants and things to do. The property itself is beautiful & relaxing. The food at the restaurant is really good, we had breakfast everyday and dinner once. This was the area in Costa Rica where we did a lot of activities; hiking, snorkeling, etc. so coming back to this hotel at night was exactly what we needed to unwind and get some rest. One thing to note is that you are not an easy walk to the beach. We drove down because of the roads and then walked the beach. There were a few other people walking the beach but there isn't much else going on. Would definitely recommend.

Hotel Lookout is a great "Home Base" for day trips to great locations like Cano Island, Corcovado, Drake Bay, and more. Lovely hotel in great location
We stayed in a lovely bungalow with a balcony that looked out over the sea- we watched the sun go down and then the firefires came out. The owner and staff are really helpful, and the local beaches were beautiful and almost deserted.

Fantastic Hotel Near Ballena
We stayed here during Tropical Storm Nate (by chance) and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, accommodating and friendly. The food was excellent and the grounds are beautiful with a pretty incredible view of the ocean. There's also lot's of amazing bird life and howler monkeys make appearances as well.

Jeffer, Orlando, and all the staff treated us like family. The view of the ocean with swells rolling in barrels, while you can hear the surf is exquisite. The food was amazing, the drinks perfect. Laying in the negative edge pool, it merges with the ocean on the horizon. Pura Vida at Hotel Lookout!

The staff at the outlook hotel were extraordinary awesome they were the nicest decorated clean rooms I have stayed at in Costa Rica over the past 16 days the staff really cared about there individuals who stayed with them the food was outstanding I would give the outlook hotels a 20 out of 20 there so much higher than a 10.

hill top hotel with ocean view beyond the trees
the hotel is in a very scenic location , perched at the top of a hill and surrounded by forest, with the deep blue Pacific ocean beyon the trees. The breakfast was very good. It had a nice swimming pool but it was extremely loaded with chlorine, so much so that it burned your eyes inmediately if you attempted to open them. Other than that , very nice. bit expensive drinks that are cut down 50% during happy hour (5 to 6 pm) which brings them to more rational prices for the country cost of living. it has several bungalows duplex casitas down a couple of flights from the pool and reception are, overlooking the beautiful scenery. Good service from Orlando.

Took care of us like family
We moved to this hotel after being disappointed in another in town with a similar rank on TA This place took care of my family, my wife broke her foot and leg the first day in an ATV accident. The whole staff pitched in to make sure she was comfortable Could not ask for more Great rooms, breakfast, dinner and pool, plus great view

Wonderful place and people
We spent two nights here and found it to be a Wonderful relaxing place with great food and service - staff was excellent with their service - John was most helpful in assisting us with what was available in the area and even upon our check-out provided a ride to the nearest bus stop (we traveled all over Panama and Costa Rica by bus). The Lookout is somewhat off the main highway but accessible by an easy walk uphill (do not travel with mush luggage) and overlooks the Pacific. Could have spent more time here relaxing, enjoying the pool and views - it is away from a lot of the attractions which makes it a quiet place to be. WIFI and breakfasts wer3e excellant and the resort had very reasonable rates.

Greetings, Our Coffee is from a small farm/plantation near San Vito; up in the Talamanca Mountains. We order on Mondays, the coffee is roasted, ground and delivered on Thursday. Always fresh, robust and delicious. We are so glad you enjoyed the java. Pura Vida!

Nice hotel but no private beach
It said on the website that it had private beach(most important reason we choose this hotel) but that's not true also the standard room doesn't have tv or a/c so be careful when choosing the excellent rate on expedia because then you have to upgrade it cause if not you will only have a fan on 95 F temperatures.

Hi Cristina, I appreciate your review of our hotel. I am surprised you thought we had a private beach. The main reason we are named Hotel Lookout is we are located above Playa Tortuga and feature expansive Ocean Views. No beach in Costa Rica is private (it is a law)--which is awesome for you as you can visit and see all the beaches. Tortuga is the first of 9 beaches in our area. It is our hope that you will enjoy nature while you are here. Therefore, no phones in the rooms. TVs and Air Conditioning in 10 of our 12 rooms. As our temperatures range from the 70s at night to the high 80s in the day, most guests find Air conditioning a nice option, but not necessary. Although I think all of this is clearly stated, I will review the website content. Again, thank you for your comments and we hope to welcome you back soon.

Comfortable hotel with nice gardens
My wife and I stayed two nights at Hotel Lookout. The hotel sits at the top of a hill with a very steep, long and rock (not stones) road. We wondered where in the world this treacherous road was leading. We booked a deluxe room, but soon realized that the room didn't have air conditioning or a tv. The owner was able to give us an upgrade to a room with AC and a tv for an additional $25/night. The room was big, but the AC worked, but not as good as all the other hotels we stayed at. The toilet handle would continuously get stuck and we would have to jiggle the handle to get it to fill and stop running continuously. There were also several ants in the room and couldn't tell where they were coming from. The wi-fi signal was also very weak. We could only ever get 1 bar of signal strength in our room. The hotel gardens are beautiful which was our favorite part of the property. The pool was nice, but small. We had breakfast included with our stay. The breakfast on the first morning was good, but the staff was stingy with the coffee and we didn't get juice. The second morning was better with coffee refills and juice. Not sure what happened between the 2 mornings because the same staff member served us. Also, there's not much to do unless you drive about 2 miles to Ojochal or 8 miles to Uvita. As I stated earlier, the hotel was nice, but could have been better. I would neitherencourage nor discourage anyone from staying at Hotel Lookout.

The view from the hotel is excellent, you have a decent pool (maybe with too much chlorine). The deluxe room has no A/C or TV. The breakfast was really good and the hotel restaurant has good mexican food.

Great customer service, everybody was super nice. Clean rooms, the pool was great and in general it has a great service, good food too. I traveled with my family and found everything quite nice, I would reserve again in this hotel.

The management and staff was extremely caring, friendly, and helpful. They arranged day trips for us, had excellent meals, had a bar where we met with friends, had a very nice pool, and provided a peaceful ambiance where we felt relaxed and safe. We plan to return next year.

The hotel staff was great. Food was fabulous. Marvaleous views. The only negative is water pressure was extremely low while showering and hot (warm) showing water was sporadic. Everything else was 4-5 stars!!!

The Lookout at Turtle Beach is AWESOME!!!!
I couldn't be happier with my first trip to Costa Rica and it is all because of our experience with Hotel Lookout. The owners were great and attended to us as if we were family. The location coulndn't have be more perfect. You are away from the crowds, but still close to all necesseties. The owners can point you in the right direction for anything you need. Make sure to check out the (free) waterfall down the road. (Owners can give you directions)Turtle Beach is also a wonderful isolated beach, you'll feel like the whole beach is yours. There are caves that you can explore at low tide, and just a beautifully natural beach untouched by man. Great margarita's, mojito's, daquiri's, and pina colada's made fresh to order. The pool is the perfect spot to relax with a book and nice breezes off of the Pacific to keep you cool. Breakfast was perfect as well. Authentic Tico - An aray of fresh fruit (that actually has taste not like in the States, I could've survived solely off of the bananas....SO DELICIOUS), rice and black beans, great eggs, perfect coffee, and fresh OJ. Couldn't ask for a more perfect vacation spot. We will definitely be back next year and will send everyone we know because you just can't beat the deal. You have to try the banana curry with shrimp. A bargain!
First keep in mind that it is a 3 star hotel, so you will have to do with out some luxuries like, AC (in the lower priced rooms) and consistent water pressure. However, the rooms were nice, clean, and comfortable. The grounds at the hotel were beautiful and the couple that own the hotel are friendly and good cooks!

hotel was nice with a beautiful view. The problem was not handicap assiable, a lot of stairs to the rooms and no railings, also no phones in rooms. They also didn't have ice , they gave cooler but you had to drive to store to get ice which was not cheap. They did have a lot of ants.

the hotel was alittle hard to find. we passed it twice. there could be more and bigger signs on the road to help. the staff was very nice and helpful. the room was hot (ours had no wall unit only a fan) but it was nice to keep the windows open and hear the ocean and birds. lots of bird watching and beautiful lanscape. free breakfast!! eggs, fruit, yogurt, beans and rice, coffee OJ! really nice. not much excitement but good for a couple wanting to relax. beautiful beach and national park within minutes. staff helped with finding activities with no problem :) i would recommend to anyone wanting a nice place to rest after along day of costa rican adventures

Wonderful stay at Hotel Lookout in Ojachal
A beautiful setting, overlooking the lovely forest and the ocean. Nice pool and delicious breakfast. We saw exotic birds, lots of toucans from the pool. We didn't need a room with air-conditioning, the fan was sufficient for a pleasant night. The German owners were helpful and accommodating. Nice beaches nearby. We observed scarlet macaws and monkeys on Tortuga Beach. Swam at beautiful Ventana Beach. Had a wonderful seafood meal at Los Delicios near Uvita Beach.

Would love to visit again! Lovely proprietors, beautiful location away from tourist central but with necessary amenities. Loved waking to bird song and falling asleep hearing the ocean waves.
