Close to airport

Posted Dec 18, 2014
The hotel was close to the airport. High way close by. From first entering valets immediately welcomed me. Unloaded my bag. Walked in lobby service desk to the right check in in minutes. Friendly and helpful staff. Foyer all marvel Beautiful relaxing lounging area. Comfortable bar and restaurant and small convenience store all on first level. Elevators to the room. Room key functioned properly. Nice pillows and sheets. Towels bathrobe clean bathroom.

Pros: Location was great. Easy access from several freeways.
Cons: Wish elevators were not so far from the front entrance.
Location: Conveniently located to Fashion Island and many good restaurants.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a good experience with room service and the front desk.

Newport Beach name is somewhat mis-leading

Posted Dec 8, 2014
Cons: self-parking option must be there.
This hotel may be in Newport Beach, but it really is right next to SNA airport. Also, why do they 'require' mandatory valet parking for overnight, with absurd charge of $30/night?

Check the total cost before booking.

Posted Dec 8, 2014
Pros: Location, staff, quality, most comfortable bed I have slept in since..... The last time I was in a Fairmont.
Cons: Transparency on cost.
Location: I didn't get to spend a lot of time sightseeing but it was very close to the venue that I needed to be at all week long.
I had a great experience at the Fairmont however I just want to let fellow business travelers know that you should calculate the total cost before making your decision. I typically would not choose the Fairmont for business travel but the price was right in line with other hotels in the area and previous experiences have proven that this chain is always a step above when it comes to accommodations and staff friendliness so I went for it. While the Newport Beach location was not any different I will say that there are a lot of daily fees that are not advertised on expedia that really effect the overall daily cost. Here are a few of the costs that I incurred. Internet: $20.95/day (they offer $10.95/day slower internet but I was not able to VPN to my remote computer effectively on it so I needed to use the premium access) Parking: $30.00/day They only offer valet parking and thus this is not an optional charge. I expect this in the heart of of a big city where accessible parking is sparse but not in a suburb. Valet Tips: $10.00/day This will depend on how many times you have to come and go throughout the day. At the end of the day most of this will be reimbursed by my company, however it was a pretty sizable out of pocket expense that I was not expecting going into the week.

The ice machine to our room was not working and their accomodation for handicap access was a bit frustrating ( the parking spots were consistently being filled by taxi drivers. Made things difficult for me ).

Upgrade = successful stay

Posted Dec 1, 2014
Pros: Our room was pretty amazing, especially the deep soak tub, the fitness center, the pool.
Cons: Parking, valet parking only for $30 a day? Kind of ridiculous. Especially considering all of the empty parking lots in the surrounding area.
Location: There are a few restaurants nearby, and the hotel offers a shuttle service to Fashion Island, Balboa Island and South Coast Plaza.
We upgraded from a standard room with a king to a room with a balcony and deep soak tub and it was well worth it. Played tennis in the morning, hit the fitness center for an hour and hung out by the pool, not bad for a November weekend! We really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to coming back again sometime in the near future!

Overpriced Hotel

Posted Nov 10, 2014
Pros: Nothing special.
Cons: The pricing and amenities provided.
Location: Not much to do near by.
The hotel does not provide any amenities included in the price of the room. The Wi-Fi, parking, food is very expensive. The traffic flow near the hotel is tolerable but the freeways are very congested.
