A fine hotel in a great location. The new dining room/restaurant and remodeled Aqua Lounge are a HUGE improvement over the former dining/bar facilities. The outside patio dining area is particularly lovely. Food, although pricey, was good. HOWEVER, the service at the bar and dinner was poor. Inattentive bartender in an uncrowded bar serving $20 drinks. Dinner service was so slow, we gave up after our flatbread appetizer. Rooms are comfortable. Our bathroom needed updating.

Nice hotel in Newport

Posted Sep 3, 2014
Pros: I liked that it was clean and easy to get to.
The hotel is very welcoming and immaculate when you walk into the lobby. You're greeted by the valet attendants and walk into a gran foyer. Check in reception was great and a short walk to the elevator and up to your room you go. One thing I did not like about our room stay was the bathtub did not drain properly whatsoever. The drain would be open but it wouldn't drain out water, so when you're taking a shower it would fill up. That and the valet charge was rather steep @ $32.

Pros: Swimming Pool
Cons: Supervising the staff particularly in Reception.
Estrella Tamburo who is working at Hotel Information Reception gave us a very bad impression of Hotel. She did not treat us well and was very rude. She lied about available rooms and finally when we asked for a manager she said she is the only manager!

Not what it used to be!

Posted Sep 2, 2014
Cons: New management! It's really too bad, this hotel used to be really nice.
Location: Great location and close to proximity to the beach, right across the street from Fashion Island Mall.
This hotel has really gone downhill and should be rated as a 3 star hotel at best, not even a coffee maker in the room! After we were told room service would be an approximate 30 to 45 minute wait, we finally went downstairs to retrieve a cup and the pot was empty with no staff in sight. Really disappointing for the money, not to mention the expensive daily parking fee. Everything in this hotel is a la carte, and I mean every single thing! Poor customer service, no attention to detail and a completely disengaged staff. Overall, just a poor experience.

Do not pay for ocean view upgrade

Posted Aug 31, 2014
Cons: FIX THE DESCRIPTION
When I booked the room there was an option to pay $50 more and get ocean view. I choose that option so we can have a great view. The problem is that the hotel is situated perpendicular to the ocean-if you look from the window sideways you might see the ocean at a distance. I feel that this is a bad description that is misleading the customers. when I complained to the front desk they said its a "ocean side view". I think the correct term should be: SIDE OCEAN VIEW.

Had a great time. Rooms are lovely but we had to move rooms because of hotel overbooking for a wedding but still enjoyed everything. Love the outdoor bar and pool areas and rooms very comfortable. Thanks

Losing their edge

Posted Aug 15, 2014
Pros: Still well maintained, but the rooms need to be renovated.
As a frequent visitor to this property, I was very disappointed to see the changes in this hotel. It was once the pinnacle of comfort and service, which is why I have stayed there repeatedly over the years. On this last trip the staff was disinterested in being helpful and inattentive to our needs, primarily in the bar and the restaurant. We understand that the hotel was sold out for the next day, but with normal check in at 3-4PM there is no reason they could not have given us a 1 hour extension on check out time. This was the icing on the cake for me. I may stay there again, but it will not me my first choice any longer.

Overpriced parking lot view hotel

Posted Jul 17, 2014
Pros: The new Oak Grill room. Improved pool facilities.
Cons: Rooms, noisy bar, crazy prices.
Location: Hotel is in an office park, and next to a shopping center. Not much to do close by.
Th hotel was recently upgraded in every part except the rooms, which is what they should have spent the $ on. Outrageous room prices for a "beach" hotel that only has views of parking lots. The hotel is nowhere near any beach. Rooms priced in the Four Seasons range, $25 house wines by the glass, $8 potatoe chips--ridiculous. Save your money and go to one of the great resorts in Laguna Beach that are actually on a beach, with sunset views.
