Relaxing overnighter and close to beach

Posted Jul 29, 2014
We come to see Pageant of Masters every year and this year we decided to stay. My husband and I chose this hotel for the year it was built. We love historic buildings and art. The bed was very comfortable and very close to the beach. We definitely will stay again.

Second time at this hotel. Nice enough, great location. Rooms are very small and could use some updating.

Romantic - European style

Posted Jul 24, 2014
Pros: See above. And free self-parking.
Cons: Give priority seating at the Rooftop Bar to hotel patrons.
Location: Close to ocean, beach, and shopping. Don't miss the Chocolate Soldier.
Beautiful hotel. The staff was wonderful - very friendly and helpful. I don't like to recommend hotels to others because people have different tastes, but if you enjoy a European, small hotel atmosphere you will love it here. The only thing is - it's a bit pricey. I guess it's location, location, location. Close to ocean and beach and shopping.

Great place to stay!

Beautiful, old hotel in Laguna that we would stay in again. Comfortable room (not huge, not tiny) & super clean, out room key cards deactivated many times but the front desk fixed then right away. Free parking across the street from hotel. Free breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast, yogurt, oatmeal, etc) each morning before you head to the (free) beach. Stop by the front desk and sign out (free) towels, chairs and umbrella, which the staff carries down the many stairs to the beach for you. Nice hotel bar in lobby, great restaurants in hotel and in the area and the hotel has a rooftop bar that is great for watching the sunset. Make sure to read fine print though bc all the things you thought were free were actually included in a $14 daily resort fee. Not a big deal at all but would have been nice to know. All in all, a lovely little gem of a hotel. Definitely give it a try if you are looking to stay in the area. Great value, nice amenities and of course, a great location!

Historic hotel, great location, Party Central

Posted Jun 7, 2014
Pros: Historic, nice bar, great location and terrace overlooking the Pacific.
Cons: Let folks know how small the queen standard rooms are - ok for a single person, crowded for two.
Location: In Laguna Beach - access down the street to the beach. Tons of cafes and shopping all around.
This classic hotel has a great ambience, good coffee and breakfast, super roof-top terrace for drinks and nibbles; however, you must be able to be go with the flow of young folks having a good time. Our room (queen standard) was built when the bathroom was down the hall and renovated with it's own small bathroom (nicely tiled). So the room was so small that the bed's headboard was parallel to the mattress! It was nicely appointed, but difficult to walk around with two people in the room. We would ask for a larger and more expensive room next time. Yes, we are ok with a little noise and it was quiet after 10:00 pm. We would stay here again - hotel staff were very good and we like historic buildings.

Convenient Laguna location but a bit shabby.

Posted May 19, 2014
An old spanish style building of character but a little shabby. Great roof terrasse for cocktails. The tiny room was cramped with, in the room, free standing, air conditioning unit. The bathroom was too small for comfort. More importantly, the unlocked windows (literally no locks on windows) opening over the dumpsters, and easily accessible from the street made it impossible to leave anything in the room.

Quaint & Friendly!!!

Posted Apr 29, 2014
Just stayed at this hotel for a friend's wedding and had a great time! The staff is wonderful, very helpful and make you feel at home. The hotel is older, but very quaint and very comfortable. The Rooftop Lounge is great- MOJITOS!! The Aji Poke appetizer is fabulous - and when it gets chilly, they give you a blanket! Bartender Pete is awesome and the view is gorgeous.
